I know I mentioned this in a recent post, but I just wanted to officially share that I've been invited to join the Pencil Lines Design Team. (Though, they did get my name all kinds of weird on the announcement. But I got an e-mail and a contract, so I do know it's me!)
Pencil Lines is a sketch challenge blog. Every Sunday at 8pm GMT (3pm EST) a guest designer (Donna Downey is this week's guest) and a new sketch are posted. To audition for the team I submitted the following layout...
...based on sketch 43:
I think I've mentioned before that I like to make sketches of sketches. It helps me to put my own spin on things. Here are my sketches of the one above:
The first drawing is a pretty direct interpretation of the sketch. I find that when I draw all the parts, I understand how the layout is put together a bit better. Sketch #2 is me starting to think about how I want to change the original sketch. Sketch #3 is a more refined version - and where I stopped sketching. It made me feel ready to get the paint and ink out!
I've never been a part of a challenge blog before. But one of my resolutions for 2010 is to do more scrapbooking just for myself. I love the idea of letting the sketches do the thinking. To me, sketches are an opportunity to go wild and let my imagination soar within the safe confines of good design. This design team represents the chance to inspire others to do the same.
Also, I wanted to share some crafty goodness from New Year's Eve. We had a party - this being Times Square and all, it was kind of mandatory - and I decorated:
Essentially, white balloons hung from the celing. There are two kinds of balloons. The first says "hello, hello" on one side and "2010" on the other...
...and the second kind has polka dots and beautiful little stars hanging from the bottom!
And yes, I cut all that tissue paper out with a pair of scissors and glued it to balloons. Maybe a little over the edge?
Finally, check out my exciting news on Tim Holtz's blog. I am just tickled pink to be chosen as one of the "artist choice" winners! And I loved what he said about my tags too:
"your spin on the 12 tags was so fresh and truly unique to your style, that's what this is all about. not a traditional color combo to be found - bravo to you!"
Thanks for letting me share my good news!
P.S.: Come back tomorrow for a monster post all about my favorite creations from 2009!
