I'm interrupting the CHA coverage a bit to share some scrappy projects!
Wow! What a great kit. Thanks so much to Tricia and all the girls at Cocoa Daisy! I had a ton of fun guest designing with the February kit. Take a peek at what I did:
I think this may be one of my all time favorite layouts ever. It's super simple, but it is just awesome (if I do say so myself)! I created a masking tape circle and then painted some gesso over it. I then took one photo from each trip I took in 2009 and put them in a big circle. The center is masking tape (I'm currently obsessed with it) and Pink Paislee stickers with some nib pen action as well.
My bravest moment was when I shrugged my shoulders and just decided to go ahead and cut the layout into a circle. I grabbed my scissors and just hacked away. So liberating!
This is a crazy busy layout, but I think the yellow paint really demands your attention. Plus the busy-ness helps to communicate the sense of happy, don't you think? My favorite part of the layout is the cutaway edges.
To insert and blend the off-white paper into the busy floral, I used an exacto knife to cut some of the flowers and other decorative elements at the edge. Then I glued them to the off-white paper using foam adhesive. I love how they help to meld everything together.
In case you haven't noticed, I am a little bit obsessed with butterflies. These babies were made with a Martha Stewart punch. I'm loving the detail!
I hand cut the flowers from some patterned paper and added the blue rhinestones. I like the way they turned out.
This layout almost looks like a pillow, eh? It's the ruffly edge.
I'm pleasantly surprised by how beautifully the paper turned the corners. I wasn't sure it was going to work out.
As soon as I saw the twisted fabric flowers on this layout by Elizabeth Kartchner, I knew that I had to try my hand at making them. She didn't explain how she made hers, so I just kind of guessed. Mine look a bit stiffer than hers, but I still love them. They're made from Prima canvas and then sprayed with Adirondack Color Wash and glittered with Distress Stickles.
I must be very in love with my husband these days because I just kept making layouts about how much I love him....
I'm kind of in love with the alphabet background.
Essentially, I took a ton of stickers and created a sort of patterned paper right below the photo. I love how bold and graphic it is. And they kind of stop looking like letters (partially because of the fun font).
Another butterfly. This time on top of a dictionary page heart that has been sprayed and glittered. I do love being a girly girl sometimes!
The ribbon along the right side is very floaty and curly. The scanner kind of flattened it out and I hated the photograph that I took of the layout, so you'll have to use your imagination.
Similar idea to the alphabet stickers here. I used a sheet of rub-ons to create a distinct area of pattern.
Lately I can't stop layering and layering and layering. Lots of paper and stitching and a touch of stamping to boot!
This next detail is my favorite "invention" of 2010 (it is only February, so I can make proclamations like that):
Using the free-motion foot on my sewing machine, I stitched a flower. I cut the shape out and then used watercolors to tint it. I love the result and will definitely be doing more of it very soon. And, as a fun bonus, I made an extra one (originally I had planned for two flowers, see both below)...
...that I'd like to give away. Just leave me a comment letting me know what crafty techniques you'd like to learn about and I'll choose a random winner to mail the remaining flower to. I'll pick the winner on February 3 at 11:59pm EST.
Thanks for stopping by!
