Last weekend I went to Coney Island for the first time! I've lived in NYC for 14 years and never been before. We got really lucky and the annual sand sculpture contest happened to be on the day we were there. How cool is that? The sculptures were very impressive and it saddens me to think that they have probably all disappeared by now, back into the beach. On the other hand, there's something lovely about ephemeral site specific art. It makes me grateful that I had the good luck to be there and see it. Here's a peek at five of my favorites:
