If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks!
I don't like to get too comfortable art-wise. It's important for me to always keep myself a little off balance, a little uncomfortable, a little stretched. So I sat down with my journal and a self-imposed challenge: use markers only. No paint -- my lovely favorite product in the world. Just markers.
To begin, I cheated a little. But since it was a self-imposed challenge, how cheater-y is it, really? I began with a page I had started more than a year ago, which does include some paint. (As a side note, I have a ton of these half-started pages in my journals. I like working on pages gradually over time. Sometimes I can work on a spread -- in my non-daily journal -- for years.)
This is what it evolved into:
I *did* collage some painted deli paper into the large striped area around the girl's head.
Under that white writing is collaged deli paper. Sigh. I couldn't help myself. But the rest of the spread is entirely marker! I used Permapaques, Sharpies - oil and water based, and Pen Touch markers. It was fun to push myself and try some new things. I do have the feeling that I've only scratched the surface of what's possible. There are so many kinds of markers out there! And they do so many different things. I may try this marker challenge again and be a bit more strict with myself.
How about you? Do you use a lot of markers in your art journal?
