March 2009 posts

I've been such a prolific scrapper lately, it seems like I've just been posting and posting new pages constantly. I miss waxing poetic and random posts filled with jumbly thoughts. So, this is one of those posts! 1. Totally bummed to not be going to the Bead&Button Show this year. Although, it's probably for the best. I mean, I haven't been doing a whole lot of jewelry and beadwork lately. Which is sad too! It's not that I haven't been inspired, but...okay, as I was typing that I knew it was a lie. I haven't been inspired to make jewelry... Read more →

Three more hybrid layouts today! And they're three very different layouts...but all using digital elements from Sugarplum Paperie. City Love: I wanted to create something that captured the messy chaos and claustrophobic feeling of NYC. I also mixed grungy elements with glitter, which feels so NYC to me! Here's the layout: Here's the digital portion: Every Day Me: This one is pretty straightforward. Though, I have noticed that I've been using my sewing machine a lot more ever since I put it on top of my desk (rather than stored under it). I threw the circles onto the layout and... Read more →

I have to tell you, they're doing construction on my building and I think the jack hammering for hours every single day might truly make me insane. So if you notice me pulling my hair out, that's why. This past weekend, the Empire Quilters (Manhattan's Quilting Guild) held the Urban Inspirations Quilt Show. I had a lot less time at the show than I would have liked, but this was a spectacularly busy weekend. Nonetheless, I took a bunch of iphone photos of some of the awesomely cool quilts that were on display. Sorry about the blurriness of the photos,... Read more →

I've got some hybrid layouts for you today! Using two fabulous digital kits from Sugarplum Paperie. Now, as I've probably mentioned before, I don't have a large format printer. I just have my regular 8.5x11" ink jet printer. So, I always have to get a little creative turning the 8.5x11" digital print out into a 12x12 paper layout. Evolution Here is the digital part (I wrote the title using a Wacom Tablet, but everything else is from SP): And here's the layout when it's all together: Family Here's the digi portion: And now the completed layout: And finally: I Can... It's no secret that I love and adore paint. However, I really found myself unable to stay away from the brushes when I put together my layouts for Right At Home Scrapbooking this month. So, without further ado... This layout tackles several of my recent obsessions all at once: paint, grids, multiple photos, and scallops! I love the way the background looks (it's a printed transparency over glitter paper). It has a lot of depth without being too distracting. Is that a two-page layout down there?! Yes, yes it is. These photos were just too cool to crop, so I... Read more →

What a fabulous kit from Label Tulip this month! One of my faves! Here's what I did with it.... We Went to See Art.... I built this page in layers: I used glue dots to adhere paper circles and some cellophane packaging to the background. I machine stitched over the background. I painted the entire background with gesso, leaving some areas with a thin coat and others with a thick coat. After the gesso had dried, I painted the background with a watered down coat of acrylic paint. I went back in and added some darker spots of red for... Read more →

The Project Fifty-Two flickr pool is full of some amazing art! It's not too late for you to join! All you have to do is create something (a photo, a poem, a layout, a tag) that celebrates your week, every week for 52 weeks. I wanted to share this little slideshow of the wonderful things that are being created... Created with flickr slideshow. This is my week 10 contribution: It's also my first official layout for Prima. Here are some details on how it all came together... I stitched the photographs to the background and then stitched five random circles.... Read more →

I've got two easy and fun tutorials for you today. I did these for Right at Home Scrapbooking, a fabulous LSS in North Attleboro, MA. Every month I do a few of these cards for the 7 gypsies spinner and then follow up with a little technique video. If you would like to doodle an adorable little bird like the ones above (did you see the super little one covered in glitter?) just watch the video: And here's the next one... This video is all about painting a new pattern onto existing patterned paper to give it a more personalized... Read more →
