April 2009 posts

Friday night I put together this little image for the show I'm currently directing: I love it! But, I'm headed into the hell that is known as "tech week." I doubt I'll be blogging much (if at all), so pardon my probable absence. That said, on Monday, the Prima blog will be featuring two layouts I did using both Prima and Tattered Angels products. So, check it out if you get a chance! Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

I just got an e-mail in my inbox from the publishers of Quilting Arts and Cloth Paper Scissors. For a limited time, they're offering their current issues online for FREE (trying to convince people to subscribe digitally, I believe). Well, the serendipitous news is that this is the month that my work happens to be in the magazine! Yay! You can my contributor bio here and my article here. Eek! So excited! I subscribe to both QA and CPS and devour the issues when they arrive. I don't know that I'd be satisfied with the digital version only (I love... Read more →

The weather is finally looking less rainy and miserable. Yay! And my shows open in less than a week. Eeek! So, I'm feeling happy! And here are some other random things going on: (1) I got an e-mail about an interesting project: A Million Little Pictures. From their website: One thousand people from around the world will document their lives in 24 frames using a disposable camera. An exhibition will be held showing over 24,000 photographs. I really love this idea. But, I didn't sign up to participate. They're charging $18 ($21 for internationals) to participate and you have to... Read more →

This month is all about circles. It wasn't intentional, but I clearly have circles on the brain. The fabulous Mother-Daughter owners of Right at Home Scrapbooking in North Attleboro, MA, sent me two gorgeous collections from My Mind's Eye: Bella Bella and Bloom & Grow. Here's what I made: I recently bought the famed "threading water" (the scallop border) punch and it is seriously addictive. Technically, this layout is hybrid because the two photos at the bottom were printed together on a single 4x6 piece of photo paper. On this layout, I used a very thin coat of gesso. I... Yesterday was reveal day at Label Tulip! There are four new Tulip Girls and so the gallery is just full of crazy awesome inspiration! Here's what I contributed... Marriage is Hard This is probably one of the all time simplest layouts I've ever done. My Mother said it was ugly when she saw it, but I rather like it. Plus, how cool is it that the screenprinted pattern resists the colorants? The original piece of paper is kraft colored (like the center of the heart). Shooting Ann I think this is my favorite of the four layouts I did with... Read more →

Thank you to everyone who e-mailed me to inquire whether or not I was okay. I'm fine, just absurdly busy. I'm currently in rehearsal for a great play, but it's taking up a ton of time. I'm on a different rehearsal schedule than normal and it's kicking my behind. The only creative thing I did last week was this little piece for Project Fifty-Two: It pretty much sums it all up. How about some good news now? 1. The American Craft Council has chosen one of my quilts to be featured on their website, along with a few others from... Read more →

In case you can't tell from my lack of posting, I'm psychotically busy. My non-crafty life has gotten soooooooo busy. Well, I sat down and created some more layouts with the paper I designed for Sultane! I learned a lot about designing paper by playing with the papers a bit more...mostly that it's inevitable that however a scrapper scraps is how they'll design paper. I mean, I use a ton of paint and stuff on my pages, so my papers reflect that feeling. Take this layout below... All I did was adhere my photo, paint the scalloped frame, and add my title and journaling. So easy! And yet because of the patterned paper it feels like a complex and arty... Read more →

Scrapbook Stores in Manhattan

Where can I buy scrapbooking supplies in Manhattan? This is a question I get pretty frequently. So, I thought I'd compile a quick list of where I shop: Portrait Bug: This is a dedicated scrapbooking store offering lots of the latest and greatest. They also have a portrait studio on the premises, so you can take photos and scrap them right away! Lee's Art Shop: Before Portrait Bug opened, this is where I shopped the most. It's probably why I use so many art supplies (like paint) in my work. Totally influenced by the supplies available. They sell fine art... Read more →
