I should be packing.
I should be sewing. (I've got a deadline.)
I should be paying my bills.
I should return some phone calls.
I should clean out my e-mail inbox. So many unread messages, eek!
I should at least clean up.
I really should get off the computer and stop procrastinating.
But, I won't. Instead, I'm going to write this post!
So, in case you didn't know, Portrait Bug no longer has a design team. Which is sad because the design team was one of the most amazingly talented that I've ever seen and all sorts of inspirational. Alas, it's not a perfect world. On the upside, Kim still lets me play with some of the new product and I wanted to share this album that I made for the store back in March...
Totally adorable, right? I covered the chipboard pages in gesso before I painted them. It helps keep the colors intense and stops them from sinking into the absorbent chipboard.
Cutting out all those painted script words was a pain in the you-know-what, but I love the finished look! It's a little more girly girl than my usual style, I think. But, I'm happy with it!
I definitely don't need anything new. Heck, you can see what I'm purging and giving away! But, I couldn't help myself.
I was having a rough morning.
I passed by my very favorite art store.
They were having their back-to-school sale.
Um...things just kind of happened.
I definitely fingered everything in the store. I lingered over some of the paints. I fantasized about the gold leafing kits. But, here's what I actually walked out with:
Clockwise from top left: (1) I'm running low on Gel Medium, so I got some more. For any of you out there who don't use Gel Medium, buy some! It's an adhesive, a transfer medium, a sealer...it's awesome! (2) Tiny round sponge dabber brushes. I'm not sure what you're supposed to use them for, but I've got an awesome painting technique in mind that I want to experiment with! (3) Palette knife. I know I have one around here somewhere, but I cannot find it anywhere! This one was on sale, so I figured, why not? (4) Paintbrushes. Also on sale. I abuse my brushes something terrible. I leave them in water for weeks. I mix glue and paint and I'm just a disaster. So, I bought some new ones! (5) Tape. Yum! Love the width of this tape! They had some three inch wide masking tape, but it was $30, and I just couldn't bring myself to do that!
Canvases were buy 2, get 1 free. I thought about getting some of the larger ones, but even with the discount they're just so overpriced here in Manhattan. I figured these 12x12 ones would come in handy for something...!
Now, this is the big indulgence of the day. You can see my hand in the photo for a scale reference. I have a small watercolor Moleskine (pronounced mol-a-skeen-a) that I love. It's my art journal and it's pretty much full. I saw this big huge grand-daddy Moleskine filled with watercolor paper and I could not leave without it! I can't wait to fill its huge pages with meandering thoughts and pretty pictures. I'm so excited!
30 Seconds at MoMA
I just got the confirmation e-mail. Eeek! I'm going to be participating in the coolest art project ever! Artist and independent filmmaker Thilo Hoffmann is making 30 second videos about people's experiences in and around The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). You can see some examples of these 30 second videos here. I feel so lucky to have been chosen to participate! I'll be sure to take some photos and blog all about it when I go in for the filming!
So that's it! Thanks for stopping by! (And helping me procrastinate!)
