April 2010 posts

I am *so* ready for the weekend. So, so, so very ready! Tomorrow is National Scrapbooking Day. Be sure to come back tomorrow for a step-by-step tutorial on how to make this layout: I did the tutorial using photos and written instructions instead of video. I don't know, which do you like better? I feel like with a video it is easier to understand what's going on, but there's a lot of sitting around, so sometimes I just want instructions. Opinions? Also, I bought a necklace at Anthropologie which turned out to be painfully pokey. It's made from woven plastic... Read more →

These are pillow boxes made with the scrips and scraps left over from the tiny album in a box class I did for Live With Prima (with some minimal additions): The one below even uses the packaging (the green scalloped card): I'm going to show you how to make the one below: Beyond the scraps from the kit, and the tools we used to put it together, you will need: Glitter (I used Doodlebug in Bon Bon and Limeade) Glue Pen (I used Sakura Quickie Glue Pen) Prima e-line pearls (I used #300692) Pillow Box Template (download the template and... I've got some fun links to share today. Do you ever see a product and think...gee, that's the coolest thing ever. The Silhouette Heat Transfer... ...is soooooooooo cool! Cut your own words, shapes, whatever to iron on to pillows, shirts, bags...oh the things it makes me want to do! On the Kenner Road blog, Diana shares an awesome digital scrapbooking tutorial. Her tutorial includes the link for the free splatter brushes used in the layout above! I downloaded them and I can't wait to use them! What a quick and easy way to cover a canvas with lots of color... Read more →

My very talented friend Nat Kalbach has a beautiful line of papers out with French company Sultane. It's called eMotions and it's so lovely! Best of all the painty look makes it super easy to create an artsy layout in just minutes. Here's what I was able to whip up: I simply combined these two papers... ...with a sewing machine and some chipboard letters. And now I've got a layout with all the depth that paint and texturing creates, but my hands are completely clean! And to answer two questions from yesterday's post: I love those pages! Did you print... Read more →

Randomness today! (1) Thanks so much for all of your lovely and generous comments on my studio! I love hearing what you think! And to answer a stray question from the comments.... I am in LOVE with your space! What's in the filing cabinet that the tv is on? I love knowing what's in all the drawers too....lol. Posted by: Erin H. | April 22, 2010 at 07:29 PM The top drawer is manuals (for everything electronic that comes into this apartment) and diaries/art journals. (I have kept a daily diary on and off for 16 years.) The rest of... Read more →

Today's post is a continuation of my studio tour. This is the final installment, part three! Here is the largest set of drawers in the room. This is what is behind me when I sit at the "play" desk and to my left when I sit at the "work" desk. You can see the printer and scanner up on top of the drawers. I also store frequently accessed things like... ...Distress Ink pads (labeled with color for ease)... ...and file folders full of paper scraps. They're filed by color, of course. The shelves above are full of books, albums, and... Read more →

Today's post is a continuation of my studio tour. This is part two! I've created a little hallway into the room by my placement of the "play" desk. Here's what it looks like: The desk is on the right, just out of the frame of the photo. There isn't a lot of space for storage. Even shelves would stick out too much, so I came up with a (relatively) flat solution! I hung some metal grids (pieces of a cube storage system that fell apart when we moved) on the wall. My embellishments are all hanging from book rings, which... Read more →

For the next three days, I'm going to take you on a tour of my studio, my crafty space, my safe haven, my little place in the world. This is part one! I am a lucky, lucky, lucky girl. We live in a two bedroom/two bathroom apartment. When we moved in, my husband announced that I should take the master bedroom (it's larger, has better light, and an en suite bathroom) as my studio. What a nice guy, right? Here's a basic shot of this magical room (which never looks this clean in real life, but I recently did some... Read more →

A new sketch went up at Pencil Lines yesterday: Turn it ninety degrees to the right and you'll see where my inspiration came from! I used Studio Calico's Anthology and Homefront lines. The title looks like it's painted in the scan, but it's hand cut. An exacto knife and a pair of scissors and about ten minutes. I'm all about the layers these days. Lots of layers of color and texture to be found here! And edge distresser really is a lovely tool! To create this journaling card, I glued the packaging insert from the densely patterned journaling cards onto... Read more →
