June 2010 posts

Happy Monday! Just a quick run down of what's in my brain today: 1. I got on a kick the other night and started carving some stamps. I like all three of them, but my favorite is the big one with all the leaves. I also made this one last night: And actually that photo is at about actual size. I like it because you can print just a single set of triangles or repeat them in a long line (depending on how well you line them up). 2. How genius is Christina Clouse? She made little sample cards of... Read more →

I sent my Dad a big box of art for Father's Day. I like to make gifts but I'm terrible about mailing them. Terrible, I tell you. So I sent him his Christmas gift (2009 Christmas), birthday gift (from May 2010) and Father's Day gift all together. Ooooops! They've just been sitting here staring at me for months. Christmas.... I made an enormous (biggest I've ever made at 18x24) painting: Birthday... You may remember this layout: Well, I popped it into a shadow box and wrapped it up... ...into a very pretty package (which as been sitting in my closet... Read more →

On Sunday I am going to be teaching the second half of my mixed media quilt class. I taught the first half two weeks ago. Take a peek at the wonderful, colorful fun we had making the base collage: Awesomeness, right? Who knew that scraps of fabric and paper could look so darn good!? I was blown away by my students' awesome creations. Truly inspired. I can't wait to see what these quilts look like when we finish them up on Sunday! Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

Harmonie is a Canadian scrapbooking company that kindly sent me a package full of their beautiful products to play with. Here's what I got: Double-sided papers... of which had a very cool secret! That brackety shaped one on the right was perforated so you could pop the shape out if you wanted to, but didn't have to! Everything I got had a kind of tropical beach theme. Vinyl Stickers: It's hard to see in the photo, but the white package on the right is actually letters. They're designed so that you can use both the positive and the negative... Read more →

All my favorite techniques in one place! Well, maybe not all...but I had a great time putting together this layout using Birgit Koopsen's collection for InfoCrea, which is called "" I'm really pleased with how this layout turned out. I think it has shot its way to the top of my list as one of my all time faves! Check out the details: The large stenciled letters were "painted" using the Copic airbrush system. I love the way it looks like spray paint, but it was so easy to do inside my apartment! And they dry almost instantly, so there's... Read more →

When I sit down to do a scrapbook layout I try to think about where the journaling will go. But I don't always do that. Sometimes I just put together the photos and the embellishments and then get stuck when it comes to putting the journaling in. And the journaling can really change the entire look of the layout. Here is a layout with the journaling moved all around. Where do you think it fits? For me... Option #1 is too square. One of the reasons I put the flower on the layout was because I wanted to break up... Read more →

I'm so, so, so excited to share my next Live With Prima project with you! Save the Date: Monday, June 28 at 2pm EST! One of the questions I hear all the time is, "Where do you store your mini albums?" I like to have people look through my little books, but they look so messy just sitting out. And now I have an awesome solution for you: It's a pretty basket to store all of your mini albums! In the photo above you can see mine in situ, on the coffee table in my living room. Look how many... I am a lucky lucky girl. So much good, happy news to share! First though, let me say how very much I appreciate your kind comments and wonderful suggestions on yesterday's post about venturing into the world of selling my art. Thank you for the encouragement! Thank you for the excellent and practical advice. Just a general huge thank you so much for taking the time to read this blog. And thank you for taking the time to leave a comment or send me an e-mail. I read and appreciate every single one! Mwah! And now onto the delightfully good... Read more →

There's an "Artists Faire" at CREATE and so I've been thinking about selling some stuff. I don't usually sell my artwork. A few commissions here and there (which I always enjoy), but that's it. But for the last few days I've been working on some small (4x6) artwork. I mounted them on black cardstock (5x7). I'm still a little on the fence about whether I should start selling stuff. I feel a little intimidated by the whole sales process. I don't really know anything about sales tax or packaging (do you wrap the art pieces up or just leave them... Read more →
