January 2011 posts

Change is inevitable. And 2011 has brought two big changes into my life. 1. Seeing positive in the negative. There's good news and bad news. The bad news is that the theatre company I run is broke. We had to give up the lease on our office and move out. We cancelled our spring 2011 productions as well. It's all tragically sad in a way that I'm not sure I have the words to express. Here's a peek at just a few of the show postcards from our eight seasons: But hey, we are survivors and have decided to spend... Read more →

Because I'm all about Art Journal Every Day being a community activity, I've asked some ladies who are participating in the project to do guest posts along the way. Today is the first of those posts! I've got two more great guests lined up -- one for January and one for February and I'm looking through all the links and postings every day and will invite more guests as the year rolls along! You never know who will be next! Today's post is by Sherri Pelletier (#51 on this list). The Spark of an Idea As 2009 was drawing to... Read more →

I did this painting in my art journal last week: Man, does she look evil and mean or what? But I decided to let it go. After all an art journal is not about pefection. Um. But I just couldn't let it go. A few days later I decided to give her some plastic surgery -- an eye lift. I gessoed out her existing mean eyes and put in some new ones! Much friendlier, don't you think? And here's the finished page: She still has some issues (and a wonky small eye), but at least she's not glaring at me... Read more →

This is the first time in a long time that I've played along with Prima's monthly Build-a-Page contest. Here's the sketch: And here's my interpretation: I really just started with the idea that I wanted to see if I could use the "So Cute" line but in my style. The "So Cute" line is double-sided paper that is blue/green/brown for boys on one side and pink/white/yellow for girls on the other. It's filled with cute little creatures (frogs, teddy bears, etc.) and so not what I would usually grab to play with. I collaged some papers, did some misting, some... Read more →

I wanted to share a couple layouts I created in November for Prima and just forgot to share! I used a journaling card to mat the photo. Those pennants are so easy to make. I'm kind of addicted! Just cut a rectangle and then cut a triangle from the bottom. Et voila! I stitched the flowers and pennants into some long banners. I added the rhinestones and white flowers after the banners were adhered to the layout. This is a very "un-me" layout. But I love it! I was going to add paint or mess but it was "just right"... I have two confessions today. ONE: I never imagined this amazing and enthusiastic response to Art Journal Every Day. I'm blown away! When I first put the Mr. Linky widget up to collect sign-ups for January I told my husband, "Gosh, I hope at least two or three people sign up. It will be so embarrassing otherwise." Well 329 people have taken up the challenge for January! Wow! How did your first week go? The first week of January is so full of good intentions isn't it? Which leads me to confession TWO: I didn't do any art journaling for... Read more →

During Holidays Handmade I posted these ridiculous photos of myself. I received this comment on that post: What great inspiration and fun photos. You are going to have a blast making layouts with these wonderful colors as inspiration. Can't wait to see them. Penny Posted by: Penny | December 07, 2010 at 08:24 AM Well, Penny was right! I had a ton of fun putting together this layout! Love the happy fun photos and the bright colors too! The journaling card (isn't that bumpy edge so pretty?) is the packaging that the rhinestone centers came in painted white and fed... Read more →
