February 2011 posts

I put together a quick layout just for fun! I really like how it turned out! I’ve had that little paper star in my scrap drawer forever. It was such a pleasure to find a place for it on this layout. This is a stamp that I designed for a now defunct kit club called "My Kits & Pieces." I still *adore* the stamp and use it too infrequently! Scraps from my desk: book pages, washi tape, patterned paper, some lace I spilled paint on, a fabric brad...and it all blends together here! Hope you're having a great day! Thanks... Read more →

Here is this week's Pencil Lines sketch: And my take on it: Check out the details: I put brads through some of the holes in the double layered buttons. I stamped the journaling with white paint and an awesome alphabet stamp set from Studio Calico. I tried to include word embellishments, given the "work" nature of this layout. I punched the tag top with a letter punch and I used a book page edge along the top and bottom of the layout. Check out the rest of the layouts here. Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

On Saturday I went to an all-day crop with the Manhattan Scrapbookers. Going to a crop means packing. I *detest* packing for a crop. Plus I find it fairly impossible. I always want to take my sewing machine, typewriter, and every single paint and spray I own. Living in New York with no car means you just can't take it all with you! Plus cropping means that I have to pre-print my photos and *gasp* that is just not the way I'm used to doing it! Well, somewhere in the midst of trying to decide what to bring and what... The prompt from Creative Therapy this month is: "What are you (or would you be) giving your children that you wish you'd had." The guest is Tamara Laporte. I made a little (8.5x11") art quilt in response to the prompt: I transferred the photo to a piece of canvas and rolled about a thousand and one fabric beads! But they're so lovely and full of color and texture! Yum! You can visit Creative Therapy to learn what the quilt means to me and to see the other ladies' beautiful work! Thanks for stopping by! Today I'm going to talk about a different kind of art journaling. One that doesn't necessarily have all the paint and ink. The focus is more on the journaling with a smattering of the art. For me, this kind of journaling was the bridge to the kind of art journaling that I do today. In many ways it was a bridge into scrapbooking for me as well. Most importantly, it was the bridge into the daily art journaling habit for me. And given the wild acclaim at the Craft and Hobby Association Show for the Smash Books from EK Success,... A little more free time has meant a lot more awesome creative time just for playing around! Yay! I have had this ugly painting staring at me for many months: A total failure and I just didn't know what to do with the canvas. It sat on the floor of my studio just taunting me with its absolute hideous-ness. So late one night, sometime after midnight, I decided it was time to reclaim the canvas! I covered the face and most of the patterning with black and white gesso, and some red acrylic paint. Then a layer of tissue paper,... Read more →

Here is this week's Pencil Lines sketch: And my take on it: Journaling reads: From the time we were little, my Mother has always teased and tortured us (which is, of course, why Matthew and I both do it too). I recently left my much loved sunglasses and earrings at her house. Before I even realized that I had left them behind these ransom photos showed up on my phone. Mom wearing my sunglasses and earrings, Mom licking my sunglasses, the teddy bear all decked out! She is such a big tease! I liked the trompe l’oeil patterned paper, but... Read more →
