September 2011 posts

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, all the posts can be found here. Please read this post first. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. Just play! Tomorrow is October 1 and a new linky list for the month will go up. Can you believe that we've been at this since January?! That's nine months down and just three months left before this year-long project comes to a close. Wow! That means there are just... I taught a hand stitching class at The City Quilter on Saturday and stamp carving at The Ink Pad as part of Art Journaling Club on Tuesday night. My absolute favorite part of any class is the chatting and getting to know people. The handstitching class was a perfect opportunity to just talk and talk and talk! And one of the things I love about an ongoing class like "Art Journaling Club" is that you really get to know people and catch up each month! I'm looking forward to this weekend's classes at BizzyB! Lots of new people to meet!... Read more →

I'm going to be in Houston, TX in a few weeks for a rep show (this is a place where store owners come to learn new skills and it is hosted by a rep group). And after the show I'll be driving to San Antonio, TX to teach a class at The Crafty Girls Workshop in San Antonio on October 17. In this exciting mixed media class we’ll be painting fabric and then collaging it to create a unique quilt. You’ll be able to choose from four different images, or create your own! Not only will you learn some simple... Read more →

Recently I was sent the Sizzix ScoreBoards XL Die #657122, otherwise known as the photo album die by Eileen Hull. This is an image of the official sample from the Sizzix site and then an image of the die below it: The die cuts three shapes: a cover, a spine with a decorative edge and perforations for folding, and a bookplate frame shape. And it cuts matboard! I mixed the die up with some paint from EcoGreen Crafts, the stencils I designed for The Crafter's Workshop, and a couple of file folders and this is what I came up with:... Last week on the Paperclipping Roundtable podcast I tried to explain how to make a mini book from coin envelopes. I failed miserably. So I promised photos instead. Here they are! OPENING ON THE OUTSIDE If you want your mini to have the envelope openings on the ouside edge of the page, follow these instructions. Using No. 1 coin envelopes, flip the flap on five envelopes. Using the existing adhesive, adhere the envelopes to each other with the flipped flap. You will have one flap leftover at the end. Wrap it around the whole book to create a pretty spine.... ...I'll be in Canada! In Toronto, to be exact. I'll be teaching and...well, they're some of my last in-person classes. At least for now. I've decided to severely limit my in-person teaching in 2012. I *love* teaching, but all the travel and prep is killing me. So get it while it's hot! I'll be teaching THREE classes at BizzyB up in Toronto, Canada! All three classes show you very different techniques, so you're definitely going to have to take all of them! C'mon who doesn't want to spend a weekend giggling and splashing around in paint? FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30: Funky... Read more →

Today we have a guest post from Nicole Maki that is going to make you run out and buy plexiglass and caulk! I wanted to share a bit about a special class I'm going to be teaching with my friend, Nat, here in NYC. But first, two publication notes: I am so excited to see my layout on the cover of the latest issue of Crafting Ireland Magazine: This is a FREE online mag and I have a step-by-step tutorial with photos on how to create the layout you see on the cover. And I have the great honor of being profiled in the current issue of Scrap Art Zine! This is a print magazine, available in Germany! The magazine has some... Read more →

WARNING: There are drawings and paintings of male nudity in this post. Please do not read any further if this is an issue for you. Thank you. I am taking a figure painting class Monday - Friday at The Art Students League. And although I am taking the class five days a week, it's not a traditional class in some of the ways that so many of us are used to. There's virtually no instruction. The teacher has spoken to me for a total of ten minutes on two occasions. He's only present for two of the five days, and... Read more →

STENCIL 101 ALERT: If you have not received an e-mail back from me granting you access to Stencil 101, you need to e-mail me again. All e-mails were answered within twenty-four hours. Please check your spam folder. I found many of your e-mails in my spam folder and since I sent about 500 e-mails (Special thanks to my Mom who saved my butt by stepping in to answer at least half of those on my behalf -- thank you, Mom!) with similar content, I suspect the internet thinks I'm a spammer. Welcome to Stencil-a-Palooza! Several days a week for the... Read more →
