Art Journal Every Day: It's All About Showing Up
November 25, 2011
If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, all the posts can be found here. Please read this post first. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. Just play! Linky list for November is right here.
Can I just say how proud of, and humbled by, the students in my online class "30 Days in Your Journal" I am?
Their evolution and growth from fearful journalers in the first week or so to confident journalers with distinct personal styles has been so gratifying to watch. And today when I logged on to the message board, there they were giving such very good advice to each other about "showing up" every single day.
I think showing up in your journal every day is key to becoming a successful every day art journaler. On the days you don't feel like it, don't have time, can't find your mojo, hate everything you touch, have lost confidence, or feel intimidated -- those are the days that you most need to plop yourself in a chair for ten minutes and play with paint or just write out the reasons why you really cannot possibly art journal today.
For a bit of creative motivation I thought I'd share some images from my students who have consistently shown up in their journals (this is a very small sampling -- you can see more than 600 images in the class flickr pool):

So what do you think? Do you feel motivated to show up in your art journal today?
Remember, it's just ten minutes of time to make a mess, write down a thought, stamp, paint, draw, doodle, stencil, or play! It's not about making something "pretty" -- just showing up is enough.
Thanks for stopping by!
