Cloth Paper Scissors has come out with a gorgeous e-mag called "Collage in Color." I'm so very pleased to be a part of it. What is an e-mag? Well, I'll let Jen explain: Available for Mac. Available for PC. Also available for iPad. Essentially, it's a digital magazine. You get an article with photos PLUS a how-to video from each artist. How awesome is that?! Check it out if you get a chance! -- PS: Here's a peek at something I worked on today: Read more →

Welcome to Stencil-a-Palooza! Several days a week for the next month or so I'll be featuring one of my eighteen stencil designs for The Crafter's Workshop! Each post comes with a giveaway. The winner will be announced after that. In the meantime, if you'd like to purchase any of the stencils there are many in-person and online shops to choose from. See a complete list here. Earlier this year I confessed that I was a bit road weary and feeling like all the traveling and teaching was limiting my "studio" time. So I resolved to cut down on my teaching in 2012. A difficult decision, but one I felt I needed to make for myself. And I have been proud of myself for sticking to my guns and turning down every teaching offer that has come my way. But.... Well, when Jenny Doh, the extraordinary artist and long time previous editor-in-chief of Somerset Studio, invited me to teach at her studio, I just didn't have the... Read more →

Cocoa Daisy is having an online crop this weekend! As you can see there are a ton of challenges, prizes, and live chats! Make sure you are registered on the message boards so you can play along! My challenge is about hand lettering: You can see hand lettering all over craft fairs -- posters, signs, price tags. Why not bring some funky hand lettering to your layouts? For this challenge forget the computer, typewriter, and letter stickers! Grab a marker, a pen, or a paint brush and create your own fonts! This is a very simple layout. I used a... Read more →

For the past ten days I have had Grand Jury Duty. That means that I've been going to the courthouse Monday-Friday since October 25. In between cases there is some dead time. Some people read, other people watch TV, call their offices, type on their laptops. Can you guess what I did with my down time? I made art, of course! I spent several days sketching. And while I don't think there's anything wrong with posting the sketches I did of people on the jury, the whole thing is supposed to be secret, so I'm going to err on the... Read more →

Today is day seven of 30 Days in Your Journal and the students have been blowing me away with their talent and creativity! Here is a small sampling of the student work and a few of their comments as well: From Margie: "My first art journal spread! Loving this class. Have wanted to do art journaling for ages and am thrilled to have crossed that imaginary line in the sand. It's so freeing! And it turns out I really love watercolors." From Jen: Jen has posted some thoughts about the class and about journaling on her blog. Here's a quick... Read more →
