If you want to catch an in-person class with me, you've got three chances! I'm teaching three classes at CREATE: New Jersey in July 2012.
Carving Stamps for Patterning (6-Hour)
Date: Friday, July 20
Materials Fee: $5.00
This class is all about carving patterning stamps, ones that can be used over and over to create beautiful repeating patterns! Along with the basics of transferring images, carving stamps, and printing, you will learn tips and tricks for carving stamps that create complex patterns depending on how you print them. Gain loads of fresh new ideas for methods of printing repeating pattern stamps. I'll even show you how to make your very own custom colored ink pad!
Students Should Bring: Speedball Carving Tool, Speedy Carve (3-4 4x6 sheets, or the equivalent in another sheet size), Cutting Mat (glass mat preferred), Box Cutter, Copy Paper (20 sheets), Pencil, Ballpoint Pen, Permanent Black Marker, Ink Pad(s), White Craft Felt, Sandwich Bag, scissors
Stamped and Stenciled Journal with Pockets (6-Hour)
Date: Saturday, July 21
Materials Fee: N/A
In this class I will show you how to make your own gorgeous "papers with personality" using stamps and stencils. The emphasis is on working in layers, understanding water solubility, color mixing, and creating pleasing compositions. I will also share how to make your own totally fabulous handmade tape. We will use that tape to bind a hand-bound-no-sew-pocket-filled journal! That's right! You can make this gorgeous book with absolutely no sewing! Got to love that! There are six front facing pockets that hold long cards for journaling. And one side facing memorabilia pocket in the front.
Students Should Bring: 5 Sheets of Watercolor Paper cut to 12x12 , 6 pieces of non-textured white cardstock cut to 4x8.5 , Paper Trimmer, Scissors, Tape Runner, the widest Masking Tape you can find, Gesso, Bristle Paintbrushes (large flat, medium round, small round), Jar or Container for Water, Teflon Craft Sheet (important to have this non-stick surface!), Scor-It (or a bone folder, ruler, and mouse pad you need a way of scoring paper), Favorite Stencils, Favorite Stamps (bolder/blockier stamps work best), Waterproof Black Stamping Ink (I recommend StazOn by Tsukineko or Archival Ink by Ranger), Spray Ink (I like Adirondack Color Wash), Acrylic Paint (any brand, any type, 3-6 colors), Cosmetic Sponges, Paper Plate (to act as a paint palette), Ribbon (to close your book)
Optional: Heat Gun, extension cord and/or power strip
Lovely Lettering (3-Hour)
Date: Sunday, July 22

With just a few basic supplies we'll transform your ordinary handwriting into beautiful artistic letters, with your own unique flair. Whether you're a born calligrapher or a total newbie to lettering, come and learn the tips and tricks for dressing up your abc's, easy illustrating, and fantastic doodles, all to create a beautiful collection of unique letters.
Students Should Bring: Mechanical Pencil, White Eraser, Black Waterproof Pen (either Sakura Pigma Micron or Pitt Pen), Watercolors, 1 very small round paintbrush, 1 medium round paintbrush, jar or container of water, Watercolor Paper (can be any size you want to work with, loose or in a journal)
