February 2012 posts

I am obsessed with an iPhone app called instagram. Kelly told me months ago that I had to join, but I just didn't get it. But now I've joined and it is so super awesome! Basically, you follow people and then you get a feed of all of the photos they share. You can leave comments on their photos if you want to. You can also instantly send those photos to Twitter, Facebook, e-mail, etc. I love it because it makes it so easy to share what I'm working on and thinking about. Here are a few images from the... So I sat down and decided that I'd put together a quick scrapbook page and snap some photos along the way so that you could take a peek into my process. I started with this piece of cardstock. I had previously drawn and painted the leaves on it for another project and then abandoned that project. I saved it thinking I would use it at some point. And today is that point. I took my photo... ...and placed it on the cardstock along with a paper ruffle made for a previous project. I didn't like the ruffle or how bright... Read more →

One of the things that I adore about Valentine's Day is that everyone decides to mix two of my favorite things together: craft + love. Even very non-crafty people will get into the spirit by making Valentines or making gifts and I think that's awesome! But any time is a good time to get crafty and hand out some love. I like to leave pretty little notes for my husband taped to the bathroom mirror, hanging over his desk, or stuck to a kitchen cabinet. Sometimes I'll hide them in his briefcase or stick them in a suit coat pocket.... Read more →

Happy Monday! I've been overwhelmed with e-mail lately. I'm feeling the love, but answering a lot of the same questions. So...I thought I'd hand out some answers right here on my blog! ONLINE CLASSES If you take an online class from me, you will have access forever. (Technically: until I die or stop paying for a Typepad account, neither of which is going to happen any time soon.) You can join any of my online classes at any time. Join when you want and work at your own pace. I've gotten a number of e-mails asking when I'm going to... Read more →

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, all the posts can be found here. Please read this post first. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks! On my recent trip to the West Coast I took my traveling art journal kit along. And... Read more →

With Valentine's Day in mind, I sat down to do some creating and this collection of heart cards emerged. I have a container that I keep painted papers in. These are papers that have been rejected from other projects or they're papers I made with no particular project in mind. It's a great source for quick creating! To start my cards I pulled out this piece of painted watercolor paper: With a bit of stamping and painting it became this piece of paper: I cut it into pieces and mixed it up with some stenciled hearts -- using my new... I thought I'd share one more sample that I made for CHA with you! This is the "Funky Tags" template: I traced the star tag onto felt and made these cute embellishments for this page about my husband. It's easy to forget that stencils are great templates that you can use for lots of fabric piecing or felt piecing or paper piecing! Hope you're having a great Wednesday! Thanks for stopping by! I had a wonderful time in Santa Ana, CA. I had never met Jenny Doh -- I only knew her through her reputation and via e-mail. But when she picked me up wearing fuzzy bear ears, I knew we'd be friends! Jenny is participating in "The Uniform Project." It's a year-long challenge to wear the same dress every single day for 365 days as a way of raising money for and bringing attention to the education of underprivleged children in India. You can watch the video to see what the original creator, Sheena, wore for a year: Uniform Project Picture... Read more →

Besides being a kit club, Studio Calico is also a manufacturer of papers, embellishments, spray inks, stamps -- all under the umbrella of mega-scrapbooking company, American Crafts. They sent me some of CHA-Summer 2011's papers and embellishments and I came up with this layout using their Memoir collection: I used some watered down Mister Huey's and an eye dropper to add the color to my background. The color was fairly intense, so I laid down letter stickers (also from Studio Calico) and sprayed white Mister Huey over the top. Once it had dried, I peeled off the stickers. I added... Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. In order to show off the stencils I designed, I made a pamphlet style art journal with just a few pages (so I could complete the whole book in time for CHA): As you can see, it has space for five art journal spreads. Just enough. And it's a nice... Read more →
