April 2012 posts

On Wednesday I mentioned that I was going to be interviewed on Mark Lipinski's internet radio show, Creative Mojo. If you missed the live broadcast, you can listen to the podcast by visiting the Creative Mojo website. When you visit the website there is a box on the right hand side that says "Recent Shows." You want to choose the show from 04-11-2012. It looks like this: Mark and I talked about taking classes and getting the most out of them. Give a listen and let me know what you think. Also, be sure to check out Mark's blog where... Read more →

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, all the posts can be found here. Please read this post first. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks! I'm not a big cover decorator. Virtually every single one of my scrapbook albums has a blank... Read more →

Today I've invited three awesome paper artistes to play with the beautiful Lotus Blossom Stencil (available in 12x12 and 6x6): Those super cool paper artistes are: Nathalie Kalbach: Nat is a messy, creative, paint and mist happy gal from Germany. As you know, she and I dreamed up the Second Floor Challenge together. She teaches all over the world and is a wonderful instructor! Jenny Barnett Rohrs: Jenny is the creative genius behind "Craft Test Dummies" -- a craft supply review and how-to site. She recently reviewed my online class "30 Days in Your Journal." She is one of the... Read more →

On Friday I'm heading out on a little roadtrip which will eventually take me to Cleveland, Ohio. In Cleveland I'll be taping the upcoming season of Scrapbook Soup TV. Today I thought I'd share a little bit about what goes into prepping for a segment on the show. Each segment is 6-7 minutes long. When I'm creating a project for the show I need to think about that fact. What is a project that I can do from start-to-finish in 6-7 minutes with some step-outs? Do you know what step-outs are? They're a TV invention. Remember when Julia Child would... Read more →

My friend Kelly recently turned thirty. When I was invited to her birthday dinner I knew that I wanted to bring a handmade gift. But giving a handmade gift to a person who makes things for a living is a somewhat intimidating proposition. I needed to think about what I could make for her that she couldn't make for herself. I mulled on it for a while, and then I decided that it had to be a custom stamp. Or as it turned out, two custom stamps: A faux wood cut portrait and then the "It's Me KP" stamp. I... Read more →

I was recently asked to donate a piece of art to "Feed Me: the 7x7 show." Here's a little bit about the show: The show is being organized to raise money for Meals on Wheels -- an organization dedicated to providing meals for seniors and so much more. The show will be made up of 49 individual pieces of art, each measuring 7" x 7". The artwork will be displayed in a grid of 7 rows and columns (hence the 7" x 7" title). All 49 works of art will be available for viewing and purchase during Brookline Open Studios... Read more →

Remember all those stencil hops we used to have? Well, they're back! For the next few weeks I'll be offering up lots of stencil ideas, inspiration, awesome people to go and visit, and giveaways! Today I've chosen to show off the super cool Pomegranate Stencil (available in 12x12 and 6x6): And I've asked three extremely talented ladies to play with the Pomegranate stencil as well: Leslie Tucker Jenison: Leslie is a talented quilter with a generous heart. I had a lovely stay with her at her beautiful home in San Antonio, TX last year. Be sure to check out her... Read more →

Today is the second Second Floor challenge! Are you ready to take it to the second floor? The challenge this time around is to use something from your art stash that you've never used before. Whatever that means to you or however it inspires you. The prompt is simply meant to get you started. The level of challenge you aim for is entirely internal and up to you. Click here to see what Nat did. The never-before-used-item I chose to work with were these acrylic stamps designed by my friend, Lisa Pace: On the left is "Society Lady" and on... Read more →
