If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks! Do you recall the journal that I made for Book Club in June?... Read more →

I am delighted to be returning to teach at The Ink Pad here in NYC. This is the last East Coast class I will be teaching for about a year. Ruin and Rescue an all day art journaling workshop Over the years I have learned that my art journal is a great place for artistic experiments. It’s all about ruin and rescue. By discovering that virtually all “mistakes” could be “fixed,” I gained confidence and lost the fear of ruining my artwork. Come and spend the day learning a panoply of techniques for layering, collaging, doodling, and creating wonderful new... Read more →

On Sunday I taught one of my all-time favorite classes "Painted Paper Collage" at Absolutely Everything in Topsfield, MA. I had a wonderful group of 17 ladies, which felt teeny tiny after Saturday's whopping 34. We made papers and then created wonderfully unique works of art with those papers. So, there you have it! Lots of beautiful and colorful work from some very talented ladies. I had a great time -- loved meeting so many blog readers and putting a real-life face with the twitter avatars I'm used to seeing. I did mention to this class that sometimes I find... Read more →

This past weekend I taught two classes at Absolutely Everything in Topsfield, MA. (I'll share photos from one class today and the other tomorrow.) It's a fantastic store filled with lots and lots of goodies. It's extremely well curated, and I bought some fun things to take home to my studio in NYC. My favorite part of the store, however, is the absolutely enormous classroom! My Altered Book class had a whopping 34 students and they all fit quite comfortably! It was a crazy, but super fun day! I'll be back tomorrow with some photos of Sunday's class! Thanks for... Read more →

As I mentioned in a previous post, I had asked the question, "What is your favorite art/craft book?" There were lots of great suggestions and I thought I'd compile them into one big list (in several parts) in case you're a book junkie like I am! The Art Journal Workshop by Traci Bunkers From Amazon: "With beautiful illustrations, The Art Journal Workshop breaks down the entire working process of journaling with step-by-step photos and instructions from start to finish. You'll learn how to use different media such as paint, photographs, and collage, while following journaling prompts and exercises to help... Read more →

I spent a lazy summer afternoon walking around Boston's beautiful Back Bay area, stopping every few moments to snap iPhone photos of the gorgeous archictectural details. Feast your eyes: So many beautiful patterns and images on every building. They just don't make buildings like they used to, you know? Hope you're having a great weekend! Read more →

This is part two of my Collage Journeys in Vermont adventure. To read part one, click here. I think one of the largest components of any class experience is the people who take the class. That's especially true when the class is five days (3 full days and 2 half days) long. Today I want to share a bit about each of the very talented women who influenced my Collage Journeys experience. JOAN Joan is eighty-one-years-old and so full of energy that she made me feel ashamed of being tired or grumpy. She's a super talented artist, who had a... Read more →
