A Two-Day Class in So. Cal
January 03, 2013
You've been asking about when I'm heading back to the West Coast, well here it is! I will be at Jenny Doh's CrescendoH Studios on January 19 & 20, 2013!!
The best part is that it's a full weekend workshop! I've been dying to teach a multi-day workshop for a while now. I think it's the best way to actually get into the teacher's head and get a wonderfully layered project finished! You can only get so much from a one-day class. Two-days is super exciting to me because there are so many things that I want to share and one-day is never enough time to do it all! I really hope you'll join me for a weekend of awesome art making!
Here are the deets:
The Amazing Tape Bound Junque Journal 207 N. Broadway, Studio L Santa Ana, CA 92701 |
"You will leave this intensive two-day workshop with a beautiful tape-bound journal filled with colorful hand-painted papers. We will make our own stamps and stencils, explore several methods of monoprinting, create plenty of hand-painted patterns, play with color, make our own decorative tape, design our journal covers, paint in layers, and stitch together a fabulous one-of-a-kind art journal!." — Julie Fei-Fan Balzer SCHEDULE for Both Saturday and Sunday:

You can see the class website and sign-up here.
So, what will you be learning?
We're going to make our own fancy stamps.
We're going to be painting faces.
There will be lots of layering prints and painting in order to create unique papers.
I'll show you how to make your own stencils.
We'll also be making our own decorative tape.
You'll learn how to do the coolest binding ever for your journal.
I'm going to be sharing my tips and techniques for making "messy" look great!
- I'm going to share my Gelli Printing secrets (including layered Gelli Prints).
- We'll go through the basics of color mixing.
- I'll share my stenciling tips and tricks.
- We'll be doing tons of layering and talking about what works best.
- I'll help you develop cool patterns of your own.
Basically, we're going to make a mess and have a really good time doing it!
I'm not sure when else I'll be able to teach a two-day class, so this may be the only time this class is ever taught. I'm super duper excited about it and I hope you'll be there!
Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. For those of you who can't make the trip to California, my "Getting Started with Color Mixing" class is available online right now! Check out just a few of the student comments:
"Hey there Julie....I loved all of the videos! They were easy to understand and simple to follow!" -- Debbie
"Loved this class. I feel like I totally get it now. I've read books galore and somehow never quite understood the point of a color wheel. I used to think -- of course red and green are opposites on the color wheel, I don't need a visual to show me that. Now I know... red is not red is not red ;) I especially loved how you showed the different mediums - and now when I start with any new medium I know I can start with basic colors for my first purchase." -- Lela
"Happy New Year Julie! I just wanted to tell you one thing...I wish you could be my teacher on all subjects I want to learn. You are so fabulous! You have such a gift for taking a subject, breaking it down, explaining it clearly and making it fun in the process. Thanks for sharing your great gift of teaching. I love this class!" -- Becky
"I took a class for color and it took three hours to explain what you explained in 10 minutes. Thank you!!!!!!" - Annette
