100 Canvases: Canvas #10

I thought long and hard about whether or not to post this canvas as part of my 100 Canvases series.  The thing is, I don't like it.

But then I decided that that's part of the process.  And it's good to share the failures along with the successes, you know?

So here she is...

When I started this canvas, it looked like this:

I painted that in November 2011.  I never liked the face, so I set out to fix it this time.

I like it.  I should have left it alone at this point.  But I kept going...

Should have stopped here.  But, I didn't...

Ugh.  And so, I just kept going.

There's something very stiff and unemotional about the final version that just doesn't appeal to me.

Time to paint over the whole thing and start again, I think.  Ah well, that's the point of this journey, isn't it?  To learn.  To grow.  To fail and then learn from that failure.
