May 2013 posts

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks! I'll confess that as things have gotten crazy around here, I haven't managed... Read more →

Here's a quick video I think you'll enjoy: The Alphabet 2 from n9ve on Vimeo. In some weird way this video reminds of the Alphabet Ladies I did back in January 2012. Thank you for all your kind comments on yesterday's post. I'm mostly brain dead, but deeply appreciative. Thanks for stopping by! --- P.S. Just a quick reminder: "Getting Started with Watercolor" starts on Saturday! Yay! Read more →

I am stressed out, stretched out, and maxed out at this moment. Overwhelmed too. I've got a couple of enormous projects that I'm working on, not the least of which is prep for the new season of Scrapbook Soup TV! We are taping next week and there is soooooooo much to get done. I've been creating tons of art every single day for all of these projects, but nothing that I can really share. So here is a total tease. Just bits and pieces of what's on my desk... And now I've got to get back to work! Thanks for... Read more →

Yesterday I was catching up on some blog reading and I came across some fabulous jewelry by talented illustrator Gennine Zlatkis. She used a pyrograph to burn designs into a leather cuff and a leather ring. I ran to my art studio immediately! I had a wood burning tool and some blank leather cuffs just sitting around. Clearly, this was fate! So, I got to work: Working with a wood burning tool is easy. You hold it just like a pencil. You have to go slowly and there is a bit of a smell from the burning leather. But with... Read more →

It's Memorial Day here in the United States and I want to say thank you to all the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve in the military. And I also want to say thank you to all the husbands and wives and children and parents who support them in their endeavors. This is a multi-layered Gelli Print done on my new *enormous* 12" x 14" Gelli Plate! I love how much room I have to play. There are some challenges that come with working larger, but I'm having a great time experimenting with it! Thanks... Read more →

I don't know about you, but I love reading blogs. I subscribe to more than 100 blogs at the moment. And I keep track of all of them through Google Reader. Unfortunately, Google is shutting Reader down on July 1. Bummer. Like so many other people, I went searching for a replacement. I tried bloglovin and feedly, bothy highly recommended. They are very slick and cool, with more of a Pinterest feel. Highly visual. But they don't work for the way I consume blogs. You see, I don't read all 100 blogs every day. I tend to check in with...
