September 2013 posts

I promised that I would tell you as soon as the Brother ScanNCut was available for purchase, so here's the good news: You can buy it right now! Here are the (unofficial) details based on my experience of using the machine: The ScanNCut is an electronic die cutter. You do not need to attach it to your computer. All you need to do is plug in the (2 prong) power cord. There are designs and fonts built into the machine. You can scan in any design -- hand drawn or computer generated -- and the machine will create a cutting... Read more →

The Brother ScanNCut is finally available for sale! To get you excited, I'm sharing a quick and easy project that uses leftover scraps from another project. (I love using every little bit, don't you?) We’re going to use the leftover bits from having cut a stencil design (I'll be sharing a video all about that process very soon!). One of the great things about the Brother ScanNCut is that you always get two perfect pieces – a positive and a negative – whenever you cut something out. Color the leaf shapes with markers that will write on a slick surface... Read more →

This is the 4 Feathers stencil: The name is a little misleading. There are four feathers, but it's also two feathers, in layers. You can use the feathers layered up: Or by themselves: Both of those examples use the 4 Feathers stencil in 6x6. The two projects in the video use the 12x12 version and the Copic Airbrush System: And here are the projects from the video: Don't forget that you can flip the feathers over to get them going the other way. Stencils are reversible after all! If you would like to win the 4 Feathers stencil in 6x6... Read more →

Last week I headed to New Jersey for a fun assignment: filming an informercial for the new Brother ScanNCut. Here are a few photos from my adventure: One of the unexpected and fun tasks I was given on set was to stage some of the projects for photos. I really enjoyed it and had a brief fantasty of running away and becoming a photo stylist. Wouldn't that be a super cool job? Speaking of cool jobs, the one I have is pretty darn awesome. I love doing on-camera work and I won't lie: I love getting all made up and... Read more →

Today I'm excited to share ten scrapbook pages that I saw on Pinterest and fell in love with. Kinsey Wilson: I love the stitching, the subtle sprays of color on the tags, the tags themselves, the masterful use of the embellishments, the overall design -- just brilliant! Mandi Johnson: In some ways it's such a random collection of elements, but she just makes it all work so beautifully and seemingly effortlessly. I love the big number, the stamping on the photo, the quirky stitching, and those blue strips that pull it all together! Tina Aszmus: I love the random collection... Read more →

In August I traveled to Utah for the Roots & Wings art retreat. I got to spend several days with a wonderful group of artists: (photo borrowed from Judy Wise's blog post about the event) I arrived on Wednesday, on very little sleep, and went straight to the hotel. (A New Yorker who never drives driving a rental car is always a hilarious event by the way.) From the hotel I headed straight to the retreat headquarters for a welcome dinner and a bit of a meet and greet. The dinner was lovely and we were each treated to a... Read more →

I've been lucky enough to be published in several magazines recently! You can see my artwork on the cover of I Heart Paper Magazine: Inside the issue I share how to make the paper feathers and the heart shaped wreath that you see. It's a beautiful magazine filled with lots of good ideas! In the current issue of Studios Magazine, I'm honored to have a multi-page feature all about my artistic life. Editor, Jenn Mason, spent a morning with me taking photos of my every day life (the photos on the right are of what I see from my apartment).... Read more →
