Metallic PanPastels
September 12, 2013
The good folks over at PanPastel were kind enough to send me some of their new Metallic PanPastels to try out.
There are six new metallics, I received four of them: Silver, Bronze, Rich Gold, and Pewter.
I mixed them up with my existing regular PanPastels and had some fun!
I like the glittery quality that the metallics create. They mix beautifully with the regular colors and do everything that regular PanPastels do: smudge, erase, mix, etc.
If you've never tried PanPastels before, you can buy some cute little sets. I also recommend picking up some of the Sofft Tools, which make applying the PanPastels really easy. I've tried using cosmetic sponges instead of the Sofft Tools and they just don't work as well. The two girls were done on watercolor paper (PanPastel likes paper with some tooth) and I used Clear Gesso on the stenciled sample to create even more tooth. (That's my Circles in Lines stencil, by the way.)
I have to confess that I was a bit intimidated to do the girls with the PanPastels. Working with sponges is a very different way of painting. But, I'm really glad that I stretched myself to try it. PanPastels are very forgiving (just smudge away or erase away mistakes) and that made it a bit easier. Sometimes I think that I don't challenge myself enough. So, I'm always glad when a new supply or a new challenge forces me out of my comfort zone!
What do you think? Are you a PanPastel fan?
Thanks for stopping by!
