If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks! I've gotten a lot of e-mails from folks looking for art journal prompts.... Read more →

Hanukkah and Thanksgiving are colliding today! It's a phenomenon that won't happen for another 70,000 years! Both Thanksgiving and Hanukkah are holidays of gratitude. One of the things I'm most grateful for is you. Thank you for listening when I ramble. Thank you for leaving comments filled with thought and encouragement. Thank you for reading, and for subscribing, and for being a wonderful part of my life every single day. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! And as always, thank you for taking the time to stop by! The final class in the "Getting Started" series is "Getting Started with Collage." There is a ton of awesome content packed into this class -- including one of the longest instructional videos I've ever made, clocking in at one hour and nine minutes. If you've taken my classes, you know that I never make videos that long! It's definitely worth the watch! Take a peek at this quick promo for the class: Here are the details: Class is hosted on a private password protected blog. All instruction is delivered to you via video. There are four videos in this class.... Read more →

With Thanksgiving coming, I got the idea of creating a place card stamp. And then I created several place card variations... I'm not sure I'd have the patience to make the cut version for a large dinner party, but for a few people, it's worth the time and effort. :) Place cards are actually one of my favorite things to make. Before I considered myself crafty or an artist, I still made elaborate place cards. I think my most impressive place cards were a set that I cross stitched. That was definitely a labor of love! I'm not sure I've... Read more →

So, I took that abstract (painting #20)... ...and I painted right over the top of it: I love that you can still see peeks of the underpainting through the petals and leaves. This feels more like me, but I'm still wandering a bit. I like it, but I don't feel like it really counts as an "abstract." What do you think? Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

DUMBO is an area of Brooklyn. The acronym stands for "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass." It's a beautiful area that I recently had the opportunity to explore. New York City is filled with fun adventures and new places to explore. I'm always amazed at how little of the city I've actually seen after fourteen years of living here. I'm hoping to do a bit more exploring before it gets too bitterly cold! Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

Scrapbook Soup TV DVDs On Sale!

As you know, I host the PBS TV show, Scrapbook Soup. Here's a segment where I share how to use hot glue to create stencils and embellishments for your scrapbook page: Unfortunately, the show isn't available in every area of the country or overseas. (You can see the listings here.) However, Scrapbook Soup is now selling DVD collections of the show and they're on sale! Through December 15, you can get the entire new season on DVD for just $29.99. Click here to learn more. The new season -- which I suppose I should call the current season -- features... Read more →

I loved all the comments and suggestions you left on my last abstract attempt. I felt very encouraged to try another one -- something with a bit more "Julie" in it. This one definitely feels more my style, but I'm still struggling. And that's okay. I truly believe that to grow as an artist I need to try uncomfortable things and fail. If I keep trying, one day I'll succeed. Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

After a brief hiatus, I'm delighted to bring you another episode of the Adventures in Arting Podcast! If you do not see the podcast player above, please click on this link. You can listen to a podcast anywhere and at any time. It is a recording that is available to you whenever you'd like to listen. If you'd like to download it to your iTunes library, click here. You can also pause and rewind or fast forward as you desire. I like to listen to podcasts while I'm making art. It's a little like hanging out with friends while you... Read more →
