December 2013 posts

Today I'm sharing my favorite non-scrapbook and non-art journal projects from 2013! See if you remember them all! Putting this post together I notice that I made very few jewelry and very few fabric projects this year. There's a lot of paint and paper and collage. Nothing wrong with that, but it's a change. I actually started my crafty adventures as a beader and then fabric was my next love. So it seems odd to me that those two art forms have fallen by the wayside, but c'est la vie. We all go through phases, right? I wonder what 2014... Read more →

Since today is normally Art Journal Every Day day, I think it makes sense to post my favorite art journal pages from 2013. Next week I'll be back with the usual linky list. In the meantime, here are my faves from the past year: There is a single overwhelming commonality isn't there? A large face. Only one page doesn't have a face. And only two pages have small faces (less than half a spread). And that one large face seems to be the single dominant image on the pages, surrounded by journaling. As much as I have been trying to... Read more →

For the next few days I'm going to share my favorites from the last year. Today I'm taking you through my favorite scrapbook pages I created during 2013! I'm a great believer in learning from what you like. By thinking about what I like about these layouts I hope to make even better scrapbook pages in 2014! With that in mind, here are some things these layouts seem to share: Assymetry -- strongly weighted to one side or the other. Faux Polaroids -- both using an even border and a "write on" border. Photo Groupings -- with the exception of... Read more →

'Tis the season for Christmas cards! I made a few simple ones with spray ink. Do you notice anything familiar? I took this snowflake from yesterday: ...and I turned it into a digital cut file! Then I used my Brother ScanNCut to cut out several snowflakes. I used the snowflakes as masks and sprayed around them and then cut out a few extra to use as embellishments. The sentiment is a hand carved stamp. You can check out the post I wrote about it last year when I made it. Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks! In the middle of October I started a new journal. (And yes, I... Read more →
