I found a little pocket of time for myself this week and worked on painting two canvases. This is the one I'm happier with at the moment. The other needs some more marination time.
When I started the canvas it was with the purpose of making the background as important as the face. I recently took a class where the teacher pointed out that I tend to let backgrounds just "be" rather than use them as an integral part of the composition.
I'm also continuing to push myself away from "pretty" into interesting. For instance, I know her two eyes are uneven. I thought about going in to fix it, but I like the effect, so I left it. It definitely adds to the creepy rather than pretty factor.
I also challenged myself to try some new techniques and even some new paint! I played around with Golden High Flow Acrylics and really enjoyed myself. They're super thin -- almost ink like. Made for easy drips and layers of thin color!
Finally, I played around with having a strong story in my mind when I created this piece and tried using some symbolism. However, I'm not sure it comes across. So, help me out. What's the story you see in this painting?
Thanks for stopping by!
