I love a pop of color! Years ago I would have told you that orange is my least favorite color in the world. But I have since learned that since I love blue, I have to love orange. Orange makes blue look even better. In fact, one of the bigges things I've learned about color over the years is that there are no ugly colors. It's all about how one color makes the other one look. But that's a conversation for another day. Today, I want to share five pieces of abstract art that I recently pinned that all have... Read more →

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks! Two weeks ago I posted the five basic supplies I would give to... Read more →

The last few weeks have been a flurry of scrapbooking and papercrafting in my apartment! So many projects and step-outs and fun things to make! And then on Tuesday, we started filming season 4 of Scrapbook Soup for PBS. We had two fabulous guests on Tuesday.... Stacy Julian... ...shared lots of tips on creating systems to make scrapbooking quick, fun, and beautiful! I stole the photo above, of all of Stacy's projects ready to go to set, from her instagram feed. Kathy Cano-Murillo, aka The Crafty Chica... ...shared lots of mixed media techniques for scrapbookers! I stole the photo above,... Read more →

I am in Ohio this week doing lots of filming and crafting and wearing the longest fake eyelashes in the world! On the upside I now have big enough eyes to be Cindy Lou Who or maybe a Disney character? I unabashedly love the glamour of makeup (even if I can't figure out how to apply it myself)! On Monday I filmed a whole bunch of videos for the Brother ScanNCut. I can't share a ton of details yet, but I had lots of fun! It was a long day at the studio, though. Makeup at 7:30am and we wrapped... Read more →

My friend Nathalie lives about an hour subway ride away, across the river in New Jersey. She'd say 45 minutes. I say an hour. She'd say Jersey City is pretty much New York City, I'd say it's not. ;) Last week she was part of an art exhibition in her apartment complex. Lots of interesting artists from her complex displayed their work. Here's a picture of Nathalie with her mixed media paintings. She invited me to come and then further tempted me to travel to New Jersey with promises of a slumber party. (Can two people be a party?) We... Read more →

The last time I did an instagram round up was in January! I post to instagram at least once a day and not everything manages to make it back to the blog, so I thought I'd pick a few favorites (it was difficult to narrow them down) to share with you today. You can see all of the photos here, but here's a quick peek at what's been going on in my instagram feed since January... In my instagram feed you'll find art work-in-progress, NYC, selfies, food, and silliness! What's in your instagram feed? Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

With the nice weather in NYC, I just want to be outside exploring! A few weekends ago I took a long walk along the water, at the edge of Brooklyn, under the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge! Here are five photos of that (windy) adventure: In the photo above I'm looking down at the rocks against the boardwalk. There is a ton of garbage that washes up on those rocks and I have to admit that I find it rather fascinating -- ropes, wood, furniture, toilet seats, clothes. "Treasures" from the sea? Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

I love using my paint rags for fabric projects. After they're too used to use as paint rags, I wash them, iron them and incorporate them into my stitch projects! A while ago I made this cute little ugly doll, but I don't think I ever shared him on the blog: I used a white paint pen to color in the eyes and teeth. I felt that it helped to define them a bit more. In case you're wondering, I did the free motion stitching before putting the doll together and stuffing it. The back of the doll is a... Read more →
