Stencil Week: Oldies But Goodies: Swatter
August 27, 2014
You may have noticed that I didn't release any new stencils this Summer. I got a couple of e-mails from people wondering what it all meant. The answer is: absolutely nothing. I've had a really intensely busy Spring and Summer and I didn't feel I could give new designs my proper attention. I don't like to put out anything less than my best work. I will have plenty of new designs for you in January! In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to do some stencil giveaways (yay!) and a whole bunch of posts about a few of my favorite stencils from previous releases. I am calling it "stencil week" even though it's not really a week. Instead, each Wednesday for a month or two, I'll be sharing some oldies but goodies, and offering stencils for giveaway! Hooray!
First up is a very overlooked stencil. It's called Swatter.
I think at first glance most people don't think this stencil is particularly interesting. And well, they'd be wrong! The project I originally showed this stencil off with was this scrapbook page:
I used the stencil as a template to cut holes in my cardstock and then place the colored paper behind those holes.
As with most of my stencils, my initial thoughts on how to use this stencil have evolved. It's now one of my absolute favorites for creating Gelli Printed backgrounds. It's graphic but simple and so it really works for layering. Check out some recent projects:
The red dots were created with my "Circle Regiment" stencil and the yellow flower is from my "4 Flowers" stencil.
Finally, this is a background which I haven't yet decided what to do with...
Today I am giving away BOTH a 6x6 "Swatter" stencil AND a 6x6 "Circle Regiment" stencil. This is the "Circle Regiment" stencil:
I used in on my art journal spread above (the one that also uses the "Swatter" stencil) and to create this scrapbook page:
If you would like to win BOTH a 6x6 "Swatter" stencil AND a 6x6 "Circle Regiment" stencil leave an answer to the following question in the comments section of this blog post:
Which of today's projects is your favorite and why?
Please note: You must leave a comment on this post, e-mail replies will not be entered to win. If you don't know how to leave a comment, click on this link. Winner will be announced next Wednesday.
