November 2014 posts

For the first time in the sixteen Thanksgivings I've passed while living in New York, I actually stayed in New York for Thanksgiving. My Brother hosted, we all cooked sides and brought them with us, my Mom bought two Peking Turkeys (turkey prepared Peking Duck style), and I made a crafty banner with my ScanNCut. We watched football, ate way too much food, and played mah jongg. Here are five photos from our holiday: Hope you had a lovely holiday! I can't believe it's almost December? Where did 2014 go?! Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you're eating too much food and spending time with your family today! I know that I am! And now, on to our guest post! USING RUBBER STAMPS with STENCILS Submitted by Deb Versluis Using rubber stamps with your stencils creates pattern, colour and shape, all at the same time. When considering what stencil and stamp combination to use, it is best to keep in mind how large the open portion of the stencil is, and how large the pattern or image on the rubber stamp is. I tend to use very “open” stencils, with large areas of... Read more →

So, I've figured out my daily art project for December. It's called... What's it all about? You guessed it, I'm going to be carving a rubber stamp each day in December! Before you gasp at this Herculean task, remember, stamp carving is actually pretty quick and easy. If you'd like to play along: Carve a stamp -- any size, any style, any motif -- each day in December. (If you miss some days, who cares!) If you post photos to social media (twitter, instagram, etc.) use the #CarveDecember hashtag so that I can find your beautiful stamps. That's it! Not... Read more →

A snowflake banner is a fun project for the holidays that takes advantage of the ScanNCut's built-in scanner. I never wanted a die cut machine because I like things that are organic and imperfect. Luckily, the ScanNCut allows me to make multiples of my own personal organic and imperfect shapes, like snowflakes. Watch the video to see how I turn a hand cut snowflake into lots of little paper snowflakes. Here's a closer look at the banner: I hope you'll give making your own snowflake banner a try! Thanks for stopping by! SUPPLIES USED: ScanNCut CM250 ScanNCut Standard Blade Holder... Read more →

Hello and “Guten Tag” to everybody. I am Anne Lange from Germany and I would like to show you how I use Julie's Stencils for my embroidery. I work with my own hand dyed fabrics and threads... ...and use them to stitch on patterns that I made by dabbing acrylic colour through the stencils. My first choice are Golden Fluid Acrylics, especially the metallics. On this embroidery (above) I used copper metallic on Julie’s stencil “Woodparquet” and stitched lines of german knots (also called coral stitch) over the pattern. In the PDF-File below you will find instructions on how to... Read more →

Hi everyone! My name is Ginger Wilson and I am a mixed media and fiber artist. Today I am going to demonstrate creating some fun variegated arrow strips that could be used in collage, scrapbooking, or art journaling. My first step is to use my gelli plate to create some variegated background papers. I like using a transparent fluid acrylic paint when gelli printing, but any acrylic paint will work. Here is a picture of my setup of my worktable. For my first variegated paper, I used hansa yellow and quinacridone red-orange. I squirt about a quarter size of paint... Read more →

I wanted to share my final #inktober letterings with you! And here is a quick flip-through video of all the pages: What a month it has been!!!! #inktober #lettering #handlettered A video posted by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer (@balzerdesigns) on Nov 11, 2014 at 7:26am PDT If you can't see the video, click HERE. I really enjoyed stretching myself with lettering, not to mention the discipline of a daily project. I'm currently thinking I might do another daily project for the month of December. I'm going to be home for most of the month and I always like a challenge! Now... Read more →
