July 2015 posts

There is no Art Journal Every Day post or linky list this week. Don't worry, I'll be back with more art journaling fun next week. :) Join me at The Ink Pad here in NYC for a weekend of classes: September 12 and 13, 2015. Gelli + Deli Saturday, September 12, 2015 10:30am-6pm Gelli Printing is completely addictive. It's an easy kind of mono-printing done on a commercial gelatin plate and once you make one, you won't be able to stop! In the first half of class we'll be making lots and lots of prints and exploring just what the... Read more →

One of the first things that made me fall in love with stamp carving was this technique for creating multi-colored prints. (You can find the whole technique in great detail in my book, Carve Stamp Play.) Having recently carved up most of my garbage rubber, I gave myself permission to crack open a nice new block of Speedy Carve. (My blocks are 2"x3".) And then I sat and carved and carved and carved until I had a giant pile of rubber. When it came to printing, I wanted each part to really stand out, so I tried to use some... Read more →

Many months ago when I was teaching at Scrapbook Centrale I fell in love with the wall of Art Foamies she had for sale. Beautiful designs! I bought lots and brought them home in my suitcase. Sadly they languished in a corner until my recent studio spruce-up. I pulled them out and decided to give them a thorough run through. Watch the video for my explorations: Here are some of the bits and bobs I experimented on in the video: This is the monoprint from the palette paper: Have you tried Art Foamies? What do you think of them? Thanks... Read more →

Artist Interview with ME! :)

A few weeks ago I was interviewed by Susan at Irreversibly Moi. Watch the video below (it's about 40 minutes of me blathering away about art and art journaling): If you leave a comment on the Irreversibly Moi interview post, you can win a FREE seat in your choice of any one of my online classes! Pretty sweet prize, right? Remember: You have to leave the comment on the Irreversibly Moi site to win, NOT on this post. I hope you enjoy the interview and thanks for stopping by! Read more →

If you're like me, you order so many business cards that you think there's no way you'll actually ever run out. Well, it finally happened. I actually ran out and needed to buy some more. So, I sat down at the computer and spent some time paging through my artwork to find fabulous images for my new cards. With Moo Cards you can have 50 different designs in each pack of cards. My new cards arrived in the mail last week and I love them!! (I almost don't want to give them out, is that terrible? Thank goodness I bought... Read more →

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks! Happy Friday arty people! I hope you've had a fantastic week filled with... Read more →

The other night I decided to gather my most hated shape of garbage rubber: I know it's hard to tell scale from this photo, but these are tiny skinny bits. They're not large enough to really cut into shapes other than the long skinny rectangles they are. I stared at them for a while and thought very seriously about just throwing them away. Who would ever know? But then, I decided that I was up for the challenge and I got out my glass mat and started carving. Necessity really is the mother of invention. I don't love all of... Looking for some awesome art inspiration? It's time for another round of recent favorites from instagram: source I want to make one of these. It's so cool. I wonder if it's hard to do? source I always love white-on-white scrapbook pages. The texture of that tin tile background is awesome! I wonder if it's printed paper or actually dimensional. source Simple and clever idea to cut part of your title from a photo and then re-insert a smaller version of the letters into the empty holes. source Luscious color and pattern with a wonky aesthetic. Super inspiring! So intensely color... Read more →

In 2012 I attended #BlogHer12 - a blogging conference for female bloggers - and wrote all about it here. This past weekend I attended #BlogHer15. In some ways it was a very different conference than it was three years ago. Of course, I am a different blogger and a different person than I was three years ago. And blogging is very different than it was three years ago -- particularly in the art & craft realm. Here's a quick run down of the experience: I brought a friend. I convinced Nathalie to come with me. It was great to have... Read more →

Remember when I posted that video about the Sakura Solid Markers several months ago? Recently, someone posted the following comment on that video on YouTube: Often used as a Graffiti marker, you can split the marker in half and put two colors together.. The color patterns are very eye attracting. Well, I absolutely had to try it out for myself! I chose two colors I thought would work well together. I turned the knob at the bottom of the Solid Marker to extend the inside as far as possible and then broke it off. I repeated this for both markers.... Read more →
