You guys! I'm so super stoked about the new ScanNCut 2! Brother really listened to all of the feedback users have been providing and packed this new machine with lots of awesome-ness. I'm delighted to bring you another episode of the Adventures in Arting Podcast! If you do not see the podcast player above, please click on this link. You can listen to a podcast anywhere and at any time. It is a recording that is available to you whenever you'd like to listen. If you'd like to download it to your iTunes library, click here. You can also pause and rewind or fast forward as you desire. I like to listen to podcasts while I'm making art. It's a little like hanging out with friends while you art. Today's topic is... Inktober is back! As you may recall, #inktober is a daily project in which you create one ink drawing every day for the 31 days of October. I've been posting mine on my instagram feed. Last year I did it for the first time. And while most participants are illustrators, I chose to work on doing lettering. You can buy a copy of a book of all 31 of my letterings from last year's inktober HERE. I wasn't sure whether or not to tackle inktober during this busy moving period. It seemed like it might be the worst idea in... Read more →

I stumbled across two fabulous videos from the 1950s. Both deal with making art with linoleum! First up is this video about lino cutting: Lino cutting is very similar to stamp carving. I think it's more difficult than stamp carving because linoleum is a tougher material. On the other hand, because linoleum is a tougher material, the blocks are very hardy. If you're interested in trying linoleum cutting, you can find a little starter kit that includes the block, the tools, ink, etc here. The second video is all about creating mosaics and other home decor items with colored linoleum!... Read more →

This post originally appeared on Nathalie's blog on August 17, 2015. Hands Down - my absolute favorite and ultimate must-have mixed media supply is: Acrylic Paint! For many years Acrylic Paint is a companion of mine and I feel as if there is never a moment where I feel that this buddy and I might part. If I wasn't too scared of needles, I might actually get an acrylic paint tube tattoo ...maybe ;) What I love about Acrylic Paints is: well - they look beautiful they are fast drying if stored and used right they last long they stick... Are you like me with a bunch of scrap papers left over from scrapbook pages, and extra pre-cut pocket cards just waiting to be used? I'll admit, in the past I've thrown out perfectly good scraps and given away pocket-cards I knew I was never going to get around to using...because really how many “best day ever” cards can a girl have and use? But now I've decided to stop cut back on the amount of artsy stuff I'm buying an make do with what I already have...hello, I can paint over those best day cards or even just use... Read more →

Hi there. I'm Jenny. Julie invited me to do a guest post on her blog so here I am! So for this post, I thought it would be great for us to have a heart-to-heart talk about Jesus and politics. Doesn't that sound super fun? Just kidding. We won't be talking about any of that. :) So for the last several years, among other things, I've been painting. The first year, it felt like I was slowly coming out of this shell as a baby painter, all wet with the birth placenta all over me, not knowing how to walk,... Read more →
