Art Journal Every Day: Guest Post: Travel Journaling with Jane Davenport
October 16, 2015
If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks!
I have just returned from a lovely trip to Bali where I got to relax watching beautiful sunsets that perfectly co-ordinated with my watermelon juice.
The Journal I worked in was one I started on my Escape Artist Retreat to Bali last year. It is handbound from a variety of watercolour and miscellaneous papers. It was pretty juicy and full with colour and drawings, but I set myself the goal of 'finishing' it on this vacation.
In this short video I do a flip-through of the journal and talk a little about the process.
These are some of the 'finished' pages:
My can't-live-without supplies are in this picture. Obviously the three Prismacolor pencils (cobolt turquoise, Dark Brown and Parma Violet) are well loved! I love mixing them with watercolours. The set I took with me was my Schmincke Jane Davenport selection. Neutral Tint and Indigo were my most used colours on this trip. I love sketching with my favourite Pen, and making highlights with the Sharpie White ex-fine paint pen. Those are my desert island choices!
I also included some supplies that are not as familiar to me, just to provide a fun challenge. The Art Graf watersoluble pencils are quite gorgeous. Graphite slides onto the page with such ease.
I was also given this dear little collection of Holi pigment powders from India. The colours are INTENSE! I used Matte Medium with them to make a paint, and then had some fun!

All of the pens and brushes fitted in my pencil case and the paints and markers fitted in a larger travel pouch. It was a refreshing change to travel so lightly with my art-supplies! And I really enjoyed working in a Journal I had already started. I like to mix things up for myself, and I hope you do too!
