February 2016 posts

I recently took half of a two-day class with quilter Louisa Smith. The second day of class was cancelled due to snow. Although I didn't learn the whole technique or manage to finish much, I figured I would still share some photos from that first day of class! First up, lots of photos of Louisa with her quilts (photos don't do them justice -- they are stunning when you see them in person): The quilts are designed to fool the eye -- can you tell if the circles are on top or underneath? Here are some photos of class in... Read more →

I thought I'd share a few photos from an afternoon I spent at "The Pru" -- otherwise known as The Prudential Center here in Boston. It's filled with lots of shopping opportunities and offers stunning 360° views of Boston. Those big white paper flowers drew me into this candy shop. I'm sure they thought I was crazy coming in just to take photos of their wall decor! Hope you're having a great weekend! --- P.S. I did a quick periscope livestream this afternoon. It should be available for viewing (you don't need to have a periscope account) until 2:30pm EST... Read more →

I was super duper excited to have the opportunity to visit Crystal Bridges. Crystal Bridges is an art museum in Arkansas dedicated to American Art. There was tons of great stuff to see -- including the building! It's a beautiful space. Take a stroll through the museum with me: I couldn't resist the chance to make some art of my own! And Myriah couldn't resist the puppet theatre! So much interesting art to see and the museum is completely 100% free admission! If you're ever in Bentonville, Arkansas I highly recommend spending an afternoon at Crystal Bridges! Hope you enjoyed... Read more →

I have a super duper cute project for you today! And it's amazingly easy to do -- bonus! Watch the video for the how to: Here's the beautiful leafy votive candle holder all lit up: I think this may be one of my favorite ScanNCut projects that I've created. I can totally see using these as centerpieces for a wedding, a baby shower, a dinner party, or just some beautiful atmosphere. It's kind of amazing to think that this is actually a cut file for a bookmark! It's a good reminder to think outside the box and see cut files... Read more →

I recently attended a lecture about the Everywhen exhibit at the Harvard Art Museums and viewed the exhibit afterwards. (You read a review of the exhibit here.) The lecture began with the playing of a didgeridoo, which I really enjoyed. Take a peek at what I saw: The Harvard Art Museum is a beautiful space. There was a small reception in the center hall area after the lecture: I often talk about how seeing art in real life is super different from seeing it on a screen. Here's a slide followed by the actual art. I'm not sure that you'll... Read more →

Art journaling doesn't have any rules. Or perhaps, as... Read more →

(Bonus points if you're a theatre nerd like me and get the title of this blog post!) I have a studio rule for myself: no sleeves. Any sleeves will absolutely 100% get covered in paint. However, I also live in New England and am cold all the time. What's a girl to do? Buy a lab coat, of course! When I got the coat, I realized there were two problems: It had an open neck -- as lab coats always do -- and was therefore not very protective in the chest spatter area. It was so so so so so...
