Double Vision Class with Louisa Smith

I recently took half of a two-day class with quilter Louisa Smith.  The second day of class was cancelled due to snow.  Although I didn't learn the whole technique or manage to finish much, I figured I would still share some photos from that first day of class!

First up, lots of photos of Louisa with her quilts (photos don't do them justice -- they are stunning when you see them in person):

The quilts are designed to fool the eye -- can you tell if the circles are on top or underneath?

Here are some photos of class in action and student work:

With so many pieces to cut, I went for the lazy choice:

I just couldn't stand the idea of cutting all of those pieces by hand.  The classroom was about ten-minutes away from my apartment.  So after lunch I went home and grabbed my ScanNCut!

Here's as far as I got in class:

Doesn't really look like me yet.  I enjoy that aspect of class very much -- the whole idea of sinking into someone else's style and seeing what I can glean for myself.  As you can see, I chose to work in colors and patterns that don't necessarily scream "Julie."  I find that this helps me to let go and explore and not worry about it looking "good."

I'm sad that I missed out on having that second day of class, but the good news is that Louisa has a book on this topic coming out in August.  I pre-ordered my copy so that I can finish up this process!  Although, I'll admit that August seems very far away right now....

Thanks for stopping by!
