Printmaking Class: Block Printing & Drypoint
March 22, 2016
I thought I would share the results of my final two printmaking classes at the MFA Boston.
We did block printing, aka stamp carving. We used a block material I didn't love, but any carving is good carving, right? Here is the teacher doing a demo on inking:
And here is a sampling of work by my fellow students:
I worked on what I thought was going to be a simple block, but turned out to be quite complicated.
I ended up having to finish the block at home! But it was worth the extra work because I love the way it turned out:
The next class was all about Drypoint -- an etching technique. Essentially, you scratch into a plastic plate to create your image.
It's amazing what a difference color makes! Here are a few examples from my fellow students:
I have really enjoyed this class and look forward to exploring more printmaking methods in the future! I know I've said it before, but taking art classes is the best thing for creativity. I always find myself inspired by the teacher, the technique, and my fellow students!
Thanks for stopping by!
