This is a post that I started writing on July 10, 2012. I was looking through some old draft blog posts and found this gem. I've added a bit of text and some images, but it's pretty much as I wrote it in 2012. I'm both surprised and unsurprised that my voice from 4 years ago is so similar to the one I have now. There is no right or wrong in art. There are ways that are easier. There are techniques which will make your tools or supplies last longer. There are ways to get closer to the results... Last week I traveled about an hour South to Kept Creations in Whitman, MA. It's a fantastic store with a really well curated collection of supplies for sale. Everyone who works there is super friendly and it really feels like a clubhouse. Take a peek: I had a great time teaching three classes. The first class was all about Art Foamies: On Saturday I taught my Sketchbook class. During the second half of class we headed outside to sketch en plein air: Sunday I taught one of my all-time favorite art journaling classes. It's not a photogenic class, but people... Read more →

Happy Sunday! It has been a while since I've had a "Weekend Five" post. In case you're new to the blog, "The Weekend Five" is an occasional post that appears on Saturday or Sunday. I share five photos -- often not specifically art-related -- around a particular theme. Today I thought I'd share five photos from my recent family trip to San Francisco. This is my Grandma. She's 96 years old. Sibling rivalry is real whether you're my Mom and her Sister... ...or me and my Brother! That's some serious side eye I'm throwing at him. Of course, I could... Read more →

Happy Summer! I hope you're having a great July! This month I spent time in Florida, California, Maine, and of course, here in Massachusetts. With all the traveling I do, I am definitely conscious of the fact that there's no place like home! With that in mind, take a peek into life around here at the moment: As you can see, I have lots of projects-in-process. I'm playing Project Life catch-up, working on some new paintings, designing new stencils and stamps...so much fun stuff that I can't wait to share with you! Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

I was prowling around Michaels recently and I found some chipboard embellishments in the scrapbooking aisle. I decided that they'd make great earrings! Watch the video for the how-to: Here they are: If you're looking for information on some of the basic wireworking I do in the video, you can find free videos on creating a wrapped wire loop here and a basic loop here. For more advanced techniques, please check out The Missing Link by Cindy Wimmer. It's an excellent book. This easy BBQ apron project demonstrates both how to work with fonts and how to work with Brother heat apply material. Watch the video for the how-to: Here are some of the apron details: Some Brother Heat Apply tips: The heat apply material can be put in the washing machine and the dryer. The material comes in 8.5x11" sheets with a variety of finishes: glitter, holographic, flocking, and film. Every sheet of heat apply material comes with a built-in carrier sheet. Be careful not to cut through the carrier sheet so that you can quickly and easily transfer your design... Read more →
