July 2016 posts

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art had been closed for a year or two for remodeling and it recently re-opened. I was delighted to have the opportunity to see the new building and the artwork when I was in San Francisco last week. Unlike any museum I've ever been to, SFMoMA requires timed tickets for entry (even for members). Perhaps as a result, it was fairly empty, even on a Saturday. Take a peek: We were lucky enough to stumble into a tour of the Calder collection. You can see the guide in on of the photos above. Most... Read more →

Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a... Read more →

When you go to the store to buy a card these days, they've gotten so very fancy -- dimensional embellishments, foiling, glitter, shaped edges, laser cutting. It's amazing. The good news is that with a little imagination, you can make even cooler cards all by yourself. Recently, I've been excited by the idea of creating tri-fold cards -- meaning cards comprised of three folded parts. I made this one for my Dad for Father's Day, using double-sided cardstock so that there was contrast between the three sections: The card is a bit of an odd size, so I also made... Read more →

Here are some art-related links you might enjoy because I liked them a lot! Tiny Metal Creations Harvard's Pigment Collection (Also, watch this video about the collection) Also pigment related: Scientists accidentally discover a new blue! Unconventional Gallery Spaces OMG! Puppet Free Library! There's lots to inspire. The two pigment pieces really make me want to mix my own paints. That seems like a very big adventure! Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

I've got another new paint to share! I was at the hardware store the other day and I just couldn't resist the super cheap paint samples. I bought three of the Valspar Paint samples to try out. Watch the video for my thoughts: Have you tried using Valspar paint for your artistic endeavors? What did you think? Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

I continue to find photos from my Australia trip that I meant to share, but somehow didn't. One of the coolest places that I visited in Australia was the Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens. It reminded me a lot of Central Park in New York City -- beautiful green park in the middle of a big vibrant city; an oasis of sorts. And yet, at the same time, it was so foreign -- so many unusual-to-me plants and plenty of giant spiders! Take a peek: I'm pretty sure you can feel the heat in this last photo! It was pretty darn... If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek. Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here. I have once again come to the end of an art journal. Usually... Read more →

I've been reviewing my photos and I somehow missed posting this museum visit to The Art Gallery of NSW in Sydney. I thought I had shared, but a google search of my blog showed me that I was mistaken. I thought you might enjoy the mixture of classical and contemporary art as much as I did. Take a peek: What's your favorite piece? Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

Hey you guys! I'll be on HSN tomorrow (July 6, 2016) during the 7am, 2pm, and 6pm hours. Let's not discuss what's going on with my hair in that photo. Hopefully there will be better hair tomorrow! ;) If you've never watched HSN before, I have about 20 minutes during each of those hours (7am, 2pm, and 6pm) to show off some projects as well as ScanNCut tips and techniques. I never know quite where I'm going to be in the hour. So you may not see me when you first tune in, but I will show up at some... Read more →
