Art Journal Every Day: No Journaling & Lots of Journaling
March 10, 2017
If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek. Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.
As you know, I'm not big on rules when it comes to art making of any kind. And certainly not in my art journal!
Oftentimes people will say to me, "Oh, you write a lot in your journals." And I say, "Yes." And then they'll point to a page and say, "Where would you write on that one?" And I respond, "I wouldn't." And then there's a moment of confusion.
I would say that I don't do any journaling on about 30% of my art journal pages. I don't plan it that way. It just happens. If writing seems to fit with the art, then I write. If it doesn't I don't.
Today I'm sharing five pages that are right in a row in my art journal. Two with lots of journaling and three with none. I didn't do it on purpose, that's just the way it happened. I encourage you to be free in your art journal explorations. Write and don't write. Art and don't art. Color and don't color. Fill and leave empty. It's a space for play!
This page is a simple exploration of the stamps I designed for Impression Obsession and some colored ink pads. Simple and colorful.
This page features two colorful leaf shapes surrounded by tons of journaling.
Purple is not a color that I often use, but I love how it looks here!
You may remember the colorful ketubah that I made for my friends. This page is made up of all of the leftover scraps of deli paper from that project.
Back in October I shared a process video where I painted the three faces on this page. You can see that the only thing I did to finish off the page was add a heck of a lot of journaling!
This page was created in response to the news that NASA had readjusted the astrological signs.
You can see that this page has an unusually shaped edge. I love that I never know what will happen on the next art journal page!
So, are you a writer or an art-er? Or both? Or neither? I'd love to know!
Thanks for stopping by!
