Art Journal Every Day: September Favorites from #artjournaleveryday

from the Balzer Designs Blog: Art Journal Every Day #artjournal #artjournaleveryday

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek.  Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.

Did you know that there are 13,372 entries under the #artjournaleveryday hashtag on instagram?  That's amazing to me!

Today I thought I'd share a few of my recent favorites from that hashtag!  Along with some thoughts on why they appealed to me:

from gracefulheart:

This is an old trick and still a good one: when you don't like your art, cut it up.  It's always better!

from karen.gaunt:

I don't know if you can make out when Karen wrote in her caption.  It's worth reading:

Looking at details always lends a new perspective I think. This is a detail from an older spread and it's totally inspiring me to make something else. We are always so concerned with looking to others for inspiration when we should be looking to ourselves and examining our own work for the inspiration we need. Stop scrolling through pinterest and scroll through your own work, you will be pleasantly surprised I promise!

This is something I'm super guilty of.  I'm going to take Karen's advice!

from artof3ziz:

Such a powerful drawing and yet so simple.  I love it.  It's a lesson in storytelling.

from kikiposthuma:

Provocative text gets me every single time.  And the way she's arranged the collage elements is masterful.  Really lovely arrangement of color and pattern.

from padmerlin:

I love this mixture of doodling and photo (?).  Also the way the doodling extends onto the graph paper behind.  I always feel like I have to smooth the edges of things.  I love that padmerlin didn't!

from susan_rose_designs:

The caption says it's her first attempt at urban sketching.  It's AMAZING! I love the integration of the book pages under the sketch! It also looks like she's used some punchinella at the bottom of her sketch.  Almost all of the urban sketching I've seen is either pen & ink or watercolor.  This is a very different piece.

from dairecharlotte:

I had to look more than once to figure out how this mandala came together.  I love art that makes you look again and again.  This page is visually stunning and clever at the same time!

from sweetashleyann:

There's that intriguing text thing again!  And this is an entirely different form of art journaling than I normally see.  It's almost scrapbooking or planner style.  I love it!

from barnwood_lantern:

That flower painting is glorious!  Love all the brush strokes in the white area.  Love the clothespins used for photography.  Love the quote from the Dalai Lama!
