Hello out there! Here's a little bit about life right now: This is me right now: My current art obsession is: The Pocket Palette A student gifted me with a palette that I love, love, love. It's a tiny (see the size comparison) palette with 14 small watercolor pans on a magnetic base. You can fill it with your watercolors of choice (I filled mine with QoR watercolors). It's amazingly small and light! My current life obsession is: Fall. It's my favorite season. I'm loving: the SAQA online Seminar on Surface Design. I joined SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Association) last... Read more →

About a month ago I went on a secret crafty mission to New York City. And now I can reveal the secret: I went to Marvel headquarters to film a quick video for them on creating your own Hela Headdress from the movie Thor: Ragnarok, just in time for Halloween: Check out the how to: If you like the video, I'd love it if you'd give it a thumbs up and even leave a comment on Marvel's YouTube page. Fantastic news for all of you Disney fans! Brother now has Disney cutting designs. This month I used the kissing Mickey and Minnie silhouettes to create this super cute shirt: My goal was to create a subtle Disney shirt -- something that felt like you could wear it anywhere. I took a vintage denim shirt from a thrift store and added the Mickey and Minnie in silver glitter Heat Apply Material. It's a really quick and easy project and a great way to ensure that you always have a great looking piece of Disney gear that truly fits you --... Read more →

When I teach, I usually sell my demo paintings. This one... ...found a happy new home. Yay! However, this one... ...did not. I had to get it home, but it was too big to put in my luggage. So, I pulled the canvas off the stretcher bars, folded it up, and put it in my suitcase. When I felt the loose canvas in my hands, I immediately knew what I wanted to do with it. Instead of re-stretching the canvas and hanging it up on the wall, I knew that this painting was destined to become an apron! On the... Read more →

I taught three classes at WhimSoDoodle in St. Petersburg: Interesting Faces, Watercolor 101, and Go Big or Go Home. Interesting Faces is all about creating faces that draw the viewer in and tell a story. Watercolor 101 is all about using tube watercolors for all kinds of neat effects that you might not expect! Finally, Go Big or Go Home is a two-day class all about painting big. We focused on going deeper than creating pretty pictures. These are the two demo paintings I worked on in class: You can see my hand for scale: And again, my hand for... Read more →

Back in June, my local quilt guild, Quilters Connection, held their annual quilt show. I was thrilled and delighted to discover that my owl quilt had made it onto the official quilt show tote bag! The guild voted and my little cutie was one of the ones that got chosen. Yay! I entered two quilts in the show. One was an older one, which you can see in this 2009 blog post, and the other one was something I made in June that I'm not 100% sure counts as a quilt. It is fabric. There is stitching There are layers.... Read more →

Other than the fact that I think "Multi Media" should be "Mixed Media," the class I took with Betty Busby was fabulous in every way! These are some of the samples that Betty brought to inspire us: So much gorgeous surface design! We had a great time painting silk... ...and sun printing and then embellishing... ...and nature printing... It was a wonderful two days! If you get a chance to take a class with Betty Busby, I highly recommend doing so! Thanks for stopping by! Read more →
