February 2018 posts

Looking back at all of these photos I find it mind boggling to think...I didn't even take photos of all of the quilts that were at Quilt Festival! AND I'm not even sharing all of the photos that I took! Mind. Blown. First up, check out this beautiful work by Sue Spargo. She's very well known in the quilt world, but was new-to-me. Her wool applique quilts are wonderful and made me want to sew. I think you'll love all the details! If you're as obsessed with Sue's work as I am, she does sell kits on her website. She... Ready for part 6 of my Quilt Festival photos? Grab a cup of coffee! It's time for some fabric magic! There is a painting hanging at the MFA (Museum of Fine Arts) here in Boston right now that reminds me of this next quilt. It has the same calligraphic painterly qualities. There are still more photos yet to come! If you're interested in learning about quilting, here are a few resources you might find useful: The book that taught me how to piece quilts Modern Quilt Guild SAQA (Studio Art Quilters Association) Post with great links for each step of... There's also a bit of fantasy, loads of animals, and much more! Enjoy! I am continually blown away by other artist's creativity, imagination, and hard earned skills. It seems impossible, but can you choose a favorite? Or at least one that is inspiring you to sit down and create?! There are few here that have me itching to paint! Thanks for stopping by! Today I'm sharing some more profiles of artists who participated in #CarveDecember! First up: Louise Nelson, aka loolabelle. Q: How many times have you participated in #CarveDecember? A: Twice Q: Why did you decide to participate this year? A: I absolutely love stamp carving but hadn’t done it for quite some time. #CarveDecember challenges and motivates me to ‘put my head down’ and just do it! I made that. And in case you weren't clear on the scale of those letters: Oh, yeah. They're BIG! Other than the "C," every letter was pieced together from multiple pieces because they were TOO BIG TO FIT ON THE 12X24" MAT. Yeah. That's big, baby! When I first started this epic project, I thought it wouldn't take me that long to get these done. I was wrong. I was so so so wrong. Overall, it took about three weeks of steady work to get them all designed, cut, assembled, and decorated. Whew. Each letter of the word "Create" demonstrates... Read more →
