Art Journal Every Day: 2017 into 2018

from the Balzer Designs Blog: Art Journal Every Day #artjournal #artjournaleveryday

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek.  Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.

Today I am sharing some pages from December 2017 and January 2018.  You'll see that I do quite often take my art journal with me when I travel.  I prep the pages before I leave town and then I just bring a few art supplies to add things in along the way.  I also can always immediately tell the December/January pages in my art journal because they feature a ton of hand carved stamps.  My journal is always on my desk and so it reflects whatever I'm working on at the moment -- that particular color palette, those particular art supplies.  Because of #CarveDecember, my December/January pages are loaded with hand carved stamps!  This first page features some multi-colored prints I did:

I printed the cacti onto book pages:

And you can see the uneven page edges that I loooove so much:

This next spread was mostly done while I was out of town:

The two "Mom tags" were already a part of the page and I just worked around them as I built the layout -- note all the hand carved stamps too!

Lettering really does not have to be fancy or neat to be awesome.  And note that the "merry and bright" lettering above was done using just a red marker, black pen, and white marker -- supplies that are easy to travel with!

Below, you'll see a little hand painted piece of street art I picked up in Mexico.  It seemed like a nice addition to my art journal.  I often use my journal as a place for keeping mementos like these:

I was going for a kind of tatoo-ed arm with this figure.

I love to use a white pen in my art journal.  I think it's a great change from always having to keep backgrounds light and use a black pen.
