July 2018 posts

You don't need a lot of time at a museum to see a lot -- especially if you're not taking photos. I recently visited SFMoMA (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art) and only had an hour to spare. I ran through and this is what I saw: The spiders by Louise Bourgeois were my favorite! And many thanks to my brother, for standing in for scale. He doesn't love photos, but he was a good sport about it! Hope you enjoyed what you saw! Thanks for stopping by! --- P.S. I am in Paris for the next week and a... Read more →

I know I share a lot of museum posts, but I want to remind you that you don't have to be inside a museum to see art! There's a ton of public art out in the world. Here are few highlights I've peeped recently: In a restaurant in Cleveland: At the cash register at a diner (these are made from felt): In Ohio, on the highway: Yes, architecture can be art! How about parked on the street? I wish I were brave enough to do that to my car! Don't forget about mini-sculptures often found outdoors and seen as "decorative":... Read more →

I was in Cleveland recently and so, of course, I hit up the Cleveland Museum of Art. Other than their special exhibits, the museum is FREE! FREE! FREE! Isn't that awesome?! Take a peek at what I saw in about an hour and a bit: The dots in the foyer are in honor of Yayoi Kusama. One of the special exhibits is her work. I thought the museum was great. The signage was good. It's an encyclopedic museum so there's a wide range of art for all tastes. It was a really great visit! Hope you enjoyed it too! Thanks... Read more →

I'm so glad that we're all being more open about the struggle to succeed. Because, let me tell you, the struggle is real. Recently, I've seen a number of excellent blog posts, instagram posts, and web articles discussing burnout, fatigue, and the struggle of making a living as an artist. I'm linking to a few that really resonated for me. I hope you'll find them interesting. I am going to be on HSN (Home Shopping Network) on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week (plus a livestream). Some things to know: You can watch HSN on your TV or stream it online. You can get the deals offered on TV on HSN's website during the 24-hour period of the day (12am EST to 11:59pm EST). On Tuesday, I will be demonstrating sewing machines and sergers during the 6am, 1pm, and 6pm EST hours. Notice that I say, "during the 6am hour." I don't know exactly what time I'm on between 6am and 7am. I only know that... Read more →

Lately I've been taking out a lot of library books. I certainly don't manage to read them in one sitting and I was not having great luck with traditional paper bookmarks. Because I'm often throwing a book into my purse or suitcase, it seems to rattle around a bit, loosening the book mark. Wandering around a stationary shop one day I saw some magnetic bookmarks and I immediately thought, "I can make that!" And so I did! And I even put together a tutorial video so that you can make one (or two or three or four) as well! This... Read more →

Today is July 4. A day when we, in America, celebrate all things American. So, I thought I'd share 3 American Artists whose work I loooooove! Jean-Michel Basquiat: "I don't listen to what art critics say. I don't know anybody who needs a critic to find out what art is." From The Art Story: Despite his work's "unstudied" appearance, Basquiat very skillfully and purposefully brought together in his art a host of disparate traditions, practices, and styles to create a unique kind of visual collage, one deriving, in part, from his urban origins, and in another a more distant, African-Caribbean...
