Art Journal Every Day: A New Art Journal Begins!
September 21, 2018
If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek. Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.
Today I'm sharing pages from a new art journal! I make all of my own art journals and I really love the cover on this one:
I used two stencils for the cover: Crossed & Profile.
I traditionally have problems with the first spread in any journal. It's like I can't quite settle into the new book. In an attempt to un-jinx myself, I used a magazine image as the focal point of this page:
The original image only had half of this model's face, so I finished up her face and the rest of her clothing.
This bit of lettering seems a bit odd. Why is only the "y" colored in?
I recently discovered that my beloved water based white Sharpie has been discontinued! And so I was road testing what I think will be my new white pen: The Posca Paint pen. I simply grabbed what was closest at hand to test it, and it happened to be my art journal.
This page features another found image, but this time it's an old photograph of my Mom as I child.
I sometimes shy away from florals because I think they're overdone, but I do so enjoy painting them and I love the way they look! Really, I ought to just get over it and do whatever I want, right?
A little bit of stenciling to fill in the bottom of this page. I try to make my journaling fit the leftover space on the page, but sometimes I simply run out of stuff to say!
So, that's the beginnings of a new journal. I'll be back next week with more new pages!
Thanks for stopping by!
