October 2018 posts

You know, I titled this post "Cupcakes for Halloween" but really it should be called "An Excuse to Try Russian Piping Tips." When I was doing some research about cookie decorating, I ran into lots of super cool information about Russian Piping Tips. What are Russian Piping Tips? I'm so glad you asked! A regular piping tip has a single hole at the end. Russian Piping Tips are kind of like Play Doh Extruders, but way fancier. In essentials, with a single squeeze and flick you can create a frosting flower. Watch the video: Well, I just *had* to try... Read more →

Hello, friends! Here's a little bit about life right now: What are you listening to? I have Buddy Guy & Junior Wells on repeat at the moment. You can get a taste in this YouTube video: What are you wearing? Winter has come. And yes, my mittens are attached to my sleeves with clips like a five-year-old. What have you bought? I'm actually trying very hard NOT to buy things. In fact, I'm in the process of throwing things away, donating things, and trying to clean out some of the clutter. That said, I did buy a set of Russian... Read more →

I had the great pleasure of teaching a two-day ScanNCut class focused on using the ScanNCut as a tool for making art tools. It was a great group of people from all over the country -- Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Hampshire, Vermont, California, and Texas. And we had so much fun making stamps, screens, stencils, masks, and more! I even made screenprinted cookies for the students, using a screen I cut with my ScanNCut! Don't worry, a tutorial for the screenprinted cookies is coming! AND, I'm so pleased to share that I will be teaching two different in-person... Read more →

If you are reading this on e-mail, you probably have to click through to read this post on my blog if you want to see the videos. As I mentioned last week, I'm trying to chase down the answer to a question I have: What makes a "finished print" as opposed to some stamps on a piece of paper? What I Like: The circle mask is giving me life. It just makes... Read more →

Looking for a last minute Halloween costume? Put on some black clothes and this cat mask made from felt and you're ready to go! Watch the video for the how to: I used two different kinds of felt to make the mask: acrylic craft felt for the mask base and stiff felt for all of the decorative elements. The one negative about cutting acrylic craft felt is that it really messes up your mat. It takes a long time to clean all of that fuzz off of the mat and I hate cleaning. The stiff felt, on the other hand,... Read more →
