Hello, friends! Here's a little bit about life right now: What are you listening to? Literally -- at this very moment of writing this blog post -- I've got my Pandora classical music station blasting. I find that I can't listen to music with words when I'm writing. It creates a conflict in my brain and I stop being able to think. What are you wearing? This coat. And I'm looking really smug in the photo because I moved the buttons all by myself instead of taking it to a tailor. Me and my sewing machine are definitely becoming better... Read more →

It's after Thanksgiving! That means it's almost time for #CarveDecember! WHAT: Every day in December we carve a stamp and post it online. WHO: Everyone is welcome to join. New stamp carvers will develop their skills quickly and experienced stamp carvers will sharpen those skills. Everyone will connect with new friends! NEW: You've asked and so I've answered. Here is a list of 31 prompts which you are welcome to use to help shape your daily carving. If you're not a prompt person, don't feel obligated to use the list. HOW: Post a photo of the stamp you've carved to... Read more →

For the past few weeks, Steve and I have been taking a wheel throwing class at the Mosesian Center for the Arts. It has been a wonderful and terrible experience. This is our teacher, Maeve: And this is the pottery studio: We got super lucky and no other students signed up. So, Steve and I have had a private class all to ourselves! I am the worst potter. Not that it's a competition, but I'm clearly in last place. I've been impressed with Steve -- who is not an artist and has never done wheel throwing before. He has taken... Read more →

I'm happy to share that I'll be teaching for Creative JumpStart (CJS) 2019 for the 8th year in a row! It's hosted by my friend, Nathalie Kalbach. If you're not familiar with CJS, it's an online event to kick your creativity into high gear throughout the month of January. Throughout January participants get access to 31 downloadable videos from 31 featured artists. Learn techniques, discover new materials, and connect with other artists and crafters. And my favorite part is that the videos are all about 10 minutes long -- so very manageable. You get 31 videos - over 5 hours... Read more →

Happy Thanksgiving! We are driving to Maine today to meet up with Steve's parents at a restaurant half way-ish between us. I hope you're finding a way to celebrate the holiday -- traditionally or otherwise! And on a day that's all about gratitude, I just want to say that I am so grateful for all of you who come back day after day to read this blog! Thank you! Have a great holiday! Read more →

I took a class this past weekend. The instructor had us do an exercise that focused on speed. When we were done she said, "Even if you don't like it, what have you lost? 5 minutes?!" The woman in front of me turned to her friend and said, "And wasted your fabric." That comment hit me like a silver bullet. I am an unabashed hoarder. I get how hard it is to let go of supplies you paid lots of money for... ...or love dearly... ...or are one-of-a-kind... ...or you don't feel you're "good enough" to use yet. But what... Here are the photos from day three of the three-day "Mixed Media Circus: Whimsical Collage" class that I taught with my dear friend, Nat Kalbach. On day three we took everything we learned on days one and two and started to work in a series of six collages. Working in a series is a great way to (1) loosen up, (2) develop your artistic voice, (3) use your time wisely, (4) speed up the learning process, and so much more! Take a peek (4th photo down is my demo collages in progress): The growth from the collages created on day... Read more →

My friend Nat Kalbach and I taught a three-day workshop in the UK called, "Mixed Media Circus: Whimsical Collage." Nat and I have taught together several times -- in Germany, New York City, Australia, and England. We had a wonderful time with a fabulous group of students. Day one and two were dedicated to color mixing, making custom patterned paper, and learning the principles and elements of art. And before I forget (and since it's the first photo), Art Foamies is having a week-long sale. If you want some of these awesome foam stamps at a discount, use the code... Read more →
