Art Journal Every Day: End of June 2018
November 16, 2018
If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek. Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.
I definitely go through periods with my art journal. Sometimes I hate the pages -- but I just keep going. Sometimes I love the pages -- and I just keep going until the good ideas run out. And the cycle continues. This is a good stretch. I love all three of the journal spreads I'm sharing with you today.
To me, this portrait is the epitome of the phrase, "grotesquely beautiful."
I love the lettering on this page too, though I do wonder if it's overkill and the portrait should be the only focus of this page?
This next page is very un-me and yet I absolutely love it! (I really must develop my vocabulary.)
I find the graphic simplicity of this page absolutely striking.
This last page is also graphic and simple.
I'm trying to think if there are some similarities between these three pages I love?
- They're all fairly unified with strong focal images.
- The "backgrounds" are all in the pastel family and yet still pigmented.
- There's an asymmetrical balance in all three pages.
I find that analyzing why I like my own work can often help me create more work I like. The next time I sit down to art journal, I can think of the three things in the list above and focus on those!
Thanks for stopping by!
