Guest Post: Stenciled Mirror

Today's guest post is from Karenliz Henderson.  I first noticed Karenliz's work when she became a member of The Crafter's Workshop Design Team.  I was so impressed by her beautiful work with stencils and I think you will be too!

Hello, I’m Karenliz Henderson and I want to thank Julie for inviting me to do a guest post.

I love picking up home décor items on sale. I’m constantly on the look out for them especially mirrors. The size of the mirror is 10”x10” and to help decorate my mirror, I used TCW826 Garden Frame designed by Julie.

To start, I sanded the wood to take off any varnishes that may have been on it. I then painted the wood around the mirror in black gesso. Gesso prepares the surface to accept the acrylic paint so I use it most of the time for décor items. I love using black paint to start because it makes the colors pop. When the gesso dried, I started with white acrylic paint to add the stencil in a random pattern.

I continued adding the stencil design with fluorescent pink, yellow, and orange paints.

To break up the busy background, I used a black paint marker and the straight line in the stencil to add geometric lines.

Here is the mirror finished. I love the bright colors and it would make a great pop of color on the wall.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

I am Karenliz Henderson.

I live in Connecticut and work full time by day as an Office and IT Manager and spend my nights and weekends in my art room.

I create art with no rhyme, reason or plan in my head. I let my heart and hands do the work. As a mixed media artist, I love creating with all types of mediums and tools. I love using art supplies in nontraditional ways to see how far I can take them.

My greatest inspiration comes from nature and Sci-Fi movies. When I'm not in my art room I love photography, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.
