December 2019 posts

Hello, friends! Here's a little bit about life right now: What are you wearing? My glasses and a baby. Besides wearing the baby and my glasses, I can be found in sweatpants or leggings and a sweater almost every single day. It's pretty glamorous! What have you bought? I keep telling myself that I'm not going to make everything about the baby. But the truth is, the baby is an all consuming part of my life at the moment. He and I spend most of every single day together, to the exclusion of everything else. Other than groceries, the only... Read more →

One of the New Years traditions that I've adopted is Ali Edwards' "One Little Word" challenge. The idea is that instead of a list of New Years Resolutions, you choose one little word to represent your goal(s) for the new year. This year I have chosen the word: "enjoy." With a new baby in the house, I want to focus on enjoying my life rather than pushing and hustling and trying to get stuff done. As a simple reminder of my resolution, I decided to make a necklace featuring the word, "enjoy." In this video tutorial, I show you how... Read more →

Today's guest post is from Karenliz Henderson. I first noticed Karenliz's work when she became a member of The Crafter's Workshop Design Team. I was so impressed by her beautiful work with stencils and I think you will be too! Hello, I’m Karenliz Henderson and I want to thank Julie for inviting me to do a guest post. I love picking up home décor items on sale. I’m constantly on the look out for them especially mirrors. The size of the mirror is 10”x10” and to help decorate my mirror, I used TCW826 Garden Frame designed by Julie. To start,... Read more →

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah! (We celebrate both in our household!) We are so delighted by the wonderful gift we received this year: He is a sweet little baby who loves lying on his side, stretching, tilting his head back, and jamming his fingers into his mouth. We can't wait to see more of his personality emerge over the coming year! Hope you are having a happy day! P.S. This month's livestream for members will be on Saturday (December 28) at 2pm EST. If you'd like to join in on the art fun (and meet the baby), you can join... Read more →

I've got another round of daily rotating repeat stamps to share with you. All of these stamps are about one inch or smaller and took me less than 30 minutes to design, carve, and print. Here are days 18-23: You may recall that back in 2015, I bought and tried out the FlexCut Micro-Palm Cutters Set. I didn't like them. And so they have sat in a drawer since then. Well, I decided it was time to bring them back out and give them another try. Everything from this point on was carved with the FlexCut tools! I struggled with... Read more →

I found a super cute and easy tutorial that I just *have* to share! It's from a blog called, "The Other Side of Neutral" and it's a step-by-step photo tutorial on how to make these really cute dimensional snowflakes: Here's the link to the tutorial. The blog writer made hers with book pages, but I can imagine they would be super cool made from hand painted papers too! Every year I decorate our Christmas tree with handmade ornaments, like these: That said, we couldn't get our act together this year to decorate the tree. (The fact that we managed to... Read more →

I wanted to share 22 seconds of an interview I did for the Creative Jumpstart Classroom: What is Creative Jumpstart? My friend Nathalie Kalbach made a video to answer that question: Along with my interview all about curiosity and creativity, I will be teaching a super cool lesson all about working in a series. These are the four pieces that I create -- from start-to-finish -- on camera in the class: If you sign up for class you get 31 downloadable video lessons from 31 different artists! Early Bird Pricing is in effect until December 31, 2019. I hope to... Read more →

Hey guys! I'm so pleased and proud to say that I've got another round of daily stamps to share with you. Here are days 10-17: A few thoughts: I've been concerned that I'm "only" doing rotating repeat stamps. I kept asking myself: Do I need to branch out? But then I decided it was adding more stress to think about branching out. By having limited parameters -- a small rotating repeat stamp every day -- the design time is quick and the stamp gets done. This is one of the reasons I love challenges and kits and other things that... Read more →
