100 Days of Gelatin Printing: Days 36-42
May 19, 2020
I'm finding it pretty easy to keep up with this 100 Day Challenge. I think there are a few reasons for it:
- I'm not traveling. I'm home every day. So that makes it sooooo much easier to make art every single day. Even with a baby.
- I looooove gelatin printing. Doing anything you love makes for an easier journey.
- Gelatin printing is both finite and expansive. On the one hand, the process is pretty finite. You put stuff on the plate. You print. On the other hand, there's all sorts of stuff you can put on the plate. All kinds of motifs. All kinds of colors. All kinds of mediums.
- Gelatin printing works at many levels. You can be a beginner and get good stuff, and yet several years into it, I am still learning and growing.
I'm very much enjoying myself. I feel challenged, and I like it. This is the week in layered monoprints (These images are embedded from instagram. If you can't see them, click HERE.):
This one is a process video:
And because people always ask: almost all of the stencils I use and make are cut from paper! Yes! Just paper. It's amazing how durable it is!
If you've never tried gelatin printing, I encourage you to give it a go. It doesn't take a lot of supplies and it is wonderfully fun. Here are the basics of what I use every day:
